Fantomas apparently recorded a version of "What a Feeling" from Flashdance as part of "The Directors Cut" but left it off the final album. Dying to hear it

Rivers Cuomo of Weezer fame was a pouffy-haired, L.A. hard-rocker in the 80's with Avant Garde, before discovering nerd-rock and cardigans could be far more lucrative.

Shawn Calizo(Goat from Von) appears in the 90s movie Dead man on campus and also composed the song Sperm that features on the soundtrack.

The Dismember thread reminded me.. the Nicke Andersson/Alex Hellid  version of Entombed apparently re-recorded a bunch of old songs a year or two ago. They're unlikely to be released though from what I was told.

Another SYL one:
On "Alien" they were recording a cover of "What's New Pussycat", but it never got finished. Would have loved to hear it.

When Sunn O))) were recording Black One, they got Malefic from Xasthur to do vocals. He's claustrophobic, so they locked him in a coffin with a microphone, threw it in the back of a car, and drove it around while recording his screams. Sounds like one of those stories which could be made up, like the one about Marilyn Manson getting a rib removed.

I'm fairly certain I saw photos on the Southern Lord forum or blog at the time of yer man in the coffin about to do the vocals

There was a photo of O'Malley in it with a microphone at some point anyway. Theres also a video of Malefic doing a gig with them somewhere that showed up o line where the "lyrics" are him insulting the audience for being posers

Obituary's cause of Dead artwork by Micheal Whelan was originally intended for Sepultura for beneath the remains, but they went with the giant skull artwork in the end. Igor Cavalera actually had part of the artwork tattooed on his arm and for years he was pissed of that Whelan gave the artwork to obituary!

And before either of them considered using it, the original painting "Lovecraft's Nightmare" had been used in the early 80s as a bunch of HP Lovecraft book covers. Which is where I presume the lads discovered it.
