Obituary's cause of Dead artwork by Micheal Whelan was originally intended for Sepultura for beneath the remains, but they went with the giant skull artwork in the end. Igor Cavalera actually had part of the artwork tattooed on his arm and for years he was pissed of that Whelan gave the artwork to obituary!

And before either of them considered using it, the original painting "Lovecraft's Nightmare" had been used in the early 80s as a bunch of HP Lovecraft book covers. Which is where I presume the lads discovered it.

This lockdown is sending me into a sarcasm overload. Yeah it's something that Kerry King seemed to be a little bit embarrassed by. A lot of shit talking until they kissed and made up for The Big 4 tour. Mustaine reckons that King was influenced by his time and Megadeth and that's what made Slayer the thrash band that they are.
