Obituary's cause of Dead artwork by Micheal Whelan was originally intended for Sepultura for beneath the remains, but they went with the giant skull artwork in the end. Igor Cavalera actually had part of the artwork tattooed on his arm and for years he was pissed of that Whelan gave the artwork to obituary!

And before either of them considered using it, the original painting "Lovecraft's Nightmare" had been used in the early 80s as a bunch of HP Lovecraft book covers. Which is where I presume the lads discovered it.

What a nice synchronicity that this thread should get bumped today!
A good article here about Michael Whelan

Sorry didnt see your other thread!

When Claypool auditioned for Metallica he didn't realize that the intro to For Whom the Bell Tolls was played on bass, so the song kicks in and they're all looking at him expectantly and he's like, "...what?"

The bass player for The Mars Volta, Juan Alderete de la Pena, wasn't always dapper in Cuban heels and playing spazzcore prog. He used to be John Alderete, covered in spandex with a poodle perm and playing in Racer X.

That surely can't be true???

It's in the Primus oral history: Over the Electric Grapevine.

Here's an excerpt from an interview where he tells the same story (and yes, pretty shocking he didn't know!):

Here's one I just remembered today.

Patrick Walker from Warning/40 Watt Sun appears in a Terry's Chocolate Orange advert . That's him lurking in the shrubbery at the the 0:009 mark and flouncing away with a chunk of orangey chocolate goodness around 0:016

Stole the show tbh.. hope it kept it going. Should have an Oscar by now

All this time and I never knew Kerry King played a few shows with Megadeth early doors, thanx Iron Fist for that little gobsmacker. C'mon , there must be SOMEONE else  right? Right??

I'll do you one better, Mustaine was once in Metallica.
Mind = blown.

Was watching the Master of Puppets doc on youtube last night, never realised they were originally going to try and get Geddy Lee to produce it

So glad they didn't. It wouldn't have been such a masterpiece had it been a rush job...

This lockdown is sending me into a sarcasm overload. Yeah it's something that Kerry King seemed to be a little bit embarrassed by. A lot of shit talking until they kissed and made up for The Big 4 tour. Mustaine reckons that King was influenced by his time and Megadeth and that's what made Slayer the thrash band that they are.

Well that was worth it for the Rush gags!

Godflesh's "Slavestate" EP heavily samples this 80s techno tune from a guy called Humanoid

Crush My Soul is built around a sample from this Caustic Window (AKA Aphex Twin) tune, it kicks in around the 4:00 mark:
