Deathsiege - Throne of Heresy

Fucking ripper of an album, like Angelcorpse on stronger meth.

Quote from: Circlepit on February 13, 2024, 07:52:03 AMI had a listen a bit of the first Achercoke album last night, the black and white cover.
I've always been aware of them and I remember one video being on headbangers ball or super rock. They were in suits.

Regardless the bits I heard last night sound like every is turned up to full intensity wise. I'll have to listen probably.

Are half that band in Voices and Werewolves?

The suits were part of the gimmick they use to play live in them. By the time they played here in the Voodoo Lounge they had stopped wearing them. No idea who Voices and Werewolves are but Matt who use to be in the Berzerker moved from OZ to England to join Akercocke for a while so if they are Australian maybe that is the connection.

I'll have to google it. There is definitely a cross over between those bands.
Voices have an album called London which had critics raving apparently.

Listened to the first track on Words... there earlier. It's alright, still very all over the place and unfocussed IMO. I'll give it a proper listen later.

Have that Voices album here and it's basically Akercocke Lite but it's still decent

It never stuck with me but I went through about a week of listening to it constantly   couldn't even hum you a note off it now.  It's not bad but still everything is going to be held up against "Words..." For me and nothing they do touches it.

I listened to the Akercocke one you recommended late last night. I remember not being very into them back in the day. Listening last night they sounded like a mix of Deicide and Frantic Bleep. Going to stick it on again now though; if nothing else, it was clear it's not the kind of album you can digest on only one spin.

Drowned-Procul His on again for repeated spins. Really is a hugely satisfying listen.

New Chelsea Wolfe on earlier, starts strong but my attention wandered for the second half on first listen.

Just finished Enslaved: Heimdal, now onto Hordanes Land with Vikingligr Veldi lined up after. Multi-CD trays are mighty indeed.

That's the spirit, it's too good to be written off on the one listen.

Have it on here again

Akercocke are fantastic the lack of love for them baffles me sometimes.
The DVD that came with words is gas. I cannot for the life of remember a note of the last one though I remember enjoying it. Voices are okay, not great.
Anyway so far this week
Kirin J Calinan - Embracism
Fuck the Facts - Die Miserable
Wreck and Reference - Indifferent Rivers
Muscle & Marrow - The Human Cry
Neurosis - Times of Grace
None - Inevitable
Oozing Wound - Retrash
(Still need to pick up the new one)
Détente - Recognise no authority

Had that dvd as well back in the day but alas... lost to the sands of time. Totally underrated band in any event.

Now Playing: Ministry - The Mind Is A Terrible Thing to Taste.

Another one that's woven into my fabric.

It's brilliant.

Akercocke have some great material, they were lauded by Metal hammer a bit in the early 2000s.And for some reason a pile of lsds in the underground decided they were shite. They blew the socks of me when they played Cork years ago.

Vargrav  - the nighthold.

Only released but pure late 90s BM worship. Its beyond homage for sure but its done straight and never once drifts into sneery know it all territory. And that makes the great photos, bombastic instrumentation and pompous spoken word passages all the more enjoyable. Fine release.
