I love the old bleak, psychotic sounding stuff. I love Filosofem which is... deeper? Maybe more enchanting or something, less butchering of the skull! The later stuff has an ease to it, a sense of maturity and reflection (despite him still clearly being as mad as a hatter) and a real inherent beauty. A folkish touch even. The very very new stuff, the demo Burzum stuff, carries that beauty with it. The recording quality is desperate, but if he took those songs to Grieghallen we could easily be on to a winner.

I have never noticed, nor have I ever heard anybody comment on the Use Your Illusion albums having a bad guitar tone?

Appetite is flawless. Out ta get me is one of my favourite songs.  Sweet Child o Mine is a banger ballad, there's a reason it's overplayed ta fuck and everybody is sick of it. I'd say most of us would probably wince when it comes on at a wedding or something as the 'rock part' of the night (along with Thunderstruck and You Shook Me), but it really is a well written song I think.

The only Burzum albums I've ever listened to are the prison ones. Never felt compelled to check out more, but I acknowledge that it was probably a bad place to start. Catchy though, I can still remember some melodies, even though I've only heard them twice, about 10 years ago.

The Filth- Time to Rot album cover is cool as fuck. I haven't heard a note of music by them but I'm 100% sold on that strange artwork.
