I'd tend to agree with oul Burgger there, but what an album in fairness. Reading that post as well just reminded me of this lad in Waterford who'd be stationed at the front of City Square shopping centre  collecting money for whatever charity when I was a kid, and whenever me and my friends walked past wearing band tshirts he'd see us coming and start shouting "Well lads!Guns N'Roses!Metallica!Axl Rose!" without fail

Does it really count!

"Live ?!*@ Like a Suicide" with a few new (mostly) accoustic tracks and an alt version of an Appetite song.

Quote from: Bürggermeister on July 15, 2025, 09:34:03 AMAppetite for Destruction is the greatest fluke in musical history. Genius collection of songs, played, recorded and mixed to perfection. Nothing these cunts have recorded since 1987 is really worth  a flying fuck, however. Yeah, there might be ok reasonable album if you scraped the best songs out of the Illusions and did something about that fucking awful guitar sound but, come on let's be honest, even that is not a good album, never mind a great album. The rest? Yeah, exactly.

So I put it to you, the greatest fluke of all fucking time and the chancers live off it to this day, almost 40 years of abject mediocrity later.

Can't really disagree with this. Loved the Illusion albums as a young lad but to be fair, anything with a parental advisory sticker had me sold back then. I think you'd be hard pushed to get even half a decent album out of the two.

There's some skips on UYI 1&2, but they're still brilliant. The missteps usually come from Axl sneaking back in when the rest of them fucked off and getting notions.

And The Spaghetti Incident is class too!

Líes and Appetite are the only GNR albums worth a listen,  though Líes is not a proper album per se .

Out Ta Get Me, Anything Goes, You're Crazy are all b-side fillers. Appetite is great, but has enough filler to drag it down to 8/10.

And while the UYI albums are mostly meh, You Could Be Mine is easily my favourite G'n'R song, so II can always have a spot on my shelf.

What was the buzz with these lads back in the day anyways? Didn't they break big around the same time as thrash? Fuck all "dangerous" sounding about Paradise City when the likes of Angel of Death and Damage Inc. landed in close proximity. Or am I just being deliberately dense for expecting all these songs long (about 13 years) after the fact? I do remember seeing G'n'R on the telly in the 80s as a kid, but not Metallica (and defo not Slayer), so were the acceptable "dangerous" face of mainstream rock?

Appetite is flawless, Rocket Queen being the best song.

The UYI albums are blaoted, yes but there's some seriously good stuff there between them. I've been meaning to do a Load/Reload style 'best of' for years, I must get on it.

Lies is mighty. The Spaghetti thing is unlistenable shite, as is Chinese Egostroking.

Lies is mighty.

Affirmative.

Rocket Queen or Mr Brownstone for me, not sure I could pick between them.  Don't think I would care if I never heard Sweet Child again in my life though.

Fuck all "dangerous" sounding about Paradise City...

It was more the bands attitude and reputaion that gave them the 'dangerous' tag

Ya, the Illusion albums both have some filler, but if it was condensed into one album, it'd be the greatest rock album of all time and definite 10/10, imo.

I also agree with whoever said Appetite has a couple of duds preventing it from being 10/10. And that's not even including Sweet Child...which I never need to hear again.

Other than My World I don't think there's any truly bad songs on the UYI albums, just songs that are better than others. Ironically the shorter/rockier songs are mostly the filler, should have ditched the covers/alt version of Don't Cry too.

But a single album comprised of your Comas, Locomotives, November Rains, Estranged etc would have been an interesting beast.

I actually like The Spaghetti Incident
