Cancer - Death Shall Rise  10/10 for me, still have the original cassette

Definitely an underated album, and their best by a mile. Shite lyrics, yes but some serious tunes on it. James Murphy, sure, you can't go wrong.

Hehe, I was thinking those Cancer ratings would rise the odd eyebrow but to me they're very ploddy, stodgy records with two or three bangers on each, like you could make a really good album from the best tracks on both. As mentioned James Murphy made  a huge difference, basically his leads elevated the second one a half a point for me, maybe that was a bit mingy of me though. 10/10 though?? Must be a bit of sentiment attached there!

Ah stop! Dearh shall rise is a classic!

It will have to rise a lot more in my opinion to ever be near yer Left Hand Path's and Cause of Death etc..

Threw on How Can I Laugh....

Without the faintest idea what it'd sound like. Thought it was well decent, didn't skip any of it. If I had one complaint I reckon it'd be better about 10 minutes shorter but that's without picking on any tune in particular. Going to check out the other albums mentioned here next and have to say I dunno why but I always had it in my head that they'd be something different altogether.

Fair, nostalgia definitely plays a part. I'll give it 8 or 9 though, still one of my favourites.

I'll stick with 10/10, it's pure unadulterated knuckle dragging.
Other 10/10 for me is Massacre- From Beyond.
When I got back in to weight training a few years ago these were big part of the listening

Corr Mhona - Dair
Darkthrone - Old Star
Accept- S/T, 'Seawinds' is such a mighty track.
Eithne Pádraigín Ní Bhraonáin - 1st 2 albums

Been listening to that album for 30 years so it's deeply ingrained. I couldn't choose ten minutes to lose. Good to hear you enjoyed it.

The self titled debut and its re-recorded version called Still Psycho After All These Years are both fucking savage too. A bit less epic, the balance of HC and heavy metal is slightly weighted more towards the former perhaps, but the songs are so damn good. I grew up with Still Psycho so I'd lean more towards it for nostalgic reasons, but both are phenomenal.

"The Miracle" off "How Will I Laugh.." is a genius tune.Big soft spot for ST. As no doubt does anyone else who was a teenager into metal here in the 90s. It felt like being into ST was almost compulsory.

"Controlled by Hatred/Feel Like Shit" might need a spin later.

Prime example of a band I liked as a kid when I was all death metal all the time who I wouldn't piss on now if they were on fire. See also Benediction.

Bought myself a replacement copy of "Altars of Madness"   and the Web of Lies lp this weekend,so that was my soundtrack along with a rake of Deftones and Diskord.

Porcupine Tree new album out the other day. Pretty good on 1st listen if anyone's into that sort of thing

Watched that Def Leppard Germany '83.

What a band in their pomp.
