Russian Circles: Nine

Despite hearing a glowing praise for them over the years I'd never actually heard Russian Circles before now. I don't know if this one is representative of their sound but it's only OK on first listen. The most recent Pelican is much better, in terms of instrumental 'post metal'.

I'd only be familiar with station by them and my take away from that album is similar. They're grand, I guess

That's pretty much their sound, they don't branch out from that at all really. Empros is much better.

I must check out the new Pelican.

I wouldn't get too excited about it, it's good but far from their best. I zoned out after City Of Echoes, I found that fairly mediocre and hadn't really listened to them since 'til this one. I was pleasantly surprised but not blown away by it, which was how I got on with the first few releases.

I might give Empros a listen, cheers.

Never heard of a note of Martyr before I picked up this reissue, seriously good album. 

Martyr are fucking great, they only put out three albums and they're all worth getting
