Sanhedrin - Heat Lightning
Seven Sisters - Shadow of a Fallen Star PT 2
Entrails - Rise of the Reaper
Wheel - Preserved in Time (a little German Epic Doom gem from 2021, sounds like a mix of Candlemass and Warning to my ears.  Really must try and pick up their other releases - not to be confused with the Finnish band of the same name).
Significant Point - Into the Storm
Tiamat - Summerian Cry
Witchcryer - When Their Gods Come For You
Azaghal - Helveton Yhdeksan Piiria (The Nine Circles of Hell)

Nokturnal Mortum - The Voice of Steel

Must check out Wheel so. Just started my own evening's listening with Tales of Creation.

Edit: I have checked them out before. Must grab the vinyl! There's also quite a similarity to Pallbearer in there too.

Giving that Wheel album a go there. Cover looks very familiar but can't remember listening to it before. Great stuff, bang of Solitude Aeturnus off it too
Watched the first episode in the Bad Religion series, the eighties part, it's pretty much a studio gig but great to hear some of the old stuff that I was mad into as a pup. Would still love to see them live

The Gates of Slumber - Suffer No Guilt
Earthshine - My Bones Shall Rest Upon The Mountains
Dimmu Borgir - Enthrone Darkness Triumphant
Tower - Let There Be Dark
MegatonSword - Might & Power
Invocator - Weave the Apocalypse
Darkthrone - Sardonic Wrath
Manowar - Hail to England

Scald - Will of the Gods is Great Power
While Heaven Wept - Of Empires Forlorn

Two magnificent slabs of epic doom. Even the train announcements couldn't ruin the doom magic on the commute this morning.

I've been listening to Will for years, and I'm still in awe of what Scald achieved. Absolute perfection.

Listened to that Scald album solo hiking a mountain recently, was a truly epic soundtrack. Incredible Stuff.

That Scald is an absolute classic.  Such an amazing album.

Tis lovely. I must give the new one a listen.

Gave it a blast in work pretty decent on first listen. Will give it more attention this evening.

Mad how there's such a divide in opinion about this band. I think they're nifty, and I'm enjoying this release a whole lot (seeing as it's aping "Human", my all time favourite album).

You could debate this sounds more like vintage Death than "The Sound of Perseverance" does.

I also wonder what the reception would be like if Death didn't exist? As if these songs existed in their own vacuum without the obvious influence.

I quite liked the first one initally but from the second listen on, the problem is there are too many blatantly derivative parts which are like a flashing neon signpost to the origin, you find yourself thinking of the original song rather than the Gruesome interpretation. It's repeatedly jarring, it takes me out of what they're doing and thinking I should be listening to Death instead. They don't just ape the vibe but they directly copy licks and, particularly, (individual) drum pattterns. It's more than an influence, it's contrived mimicery, too close to what they're (admirably) trying to pay homage to.

Managed to quote myself instead of edit. Mad skillz.

I've often wondered what the reception for Krokus would have been like if AC/DC didn't exist...Metal Rendez-vous would have sold as many copies as Back in Black. They could have played Croke Park. It makes you think.
