The controversy over plagiarism at Cambridge is an interesting one. So much initial reviewing of any kind of documentation is done by AI now, which is actually not great at all at comprehending documents written by humans, despite what Big Tech would have you believe. If your document is going to be filtered by AI, it's far better if it's written by AI too, as it will be constructed in a way which lets the reading bot understand better than one in which the quirks of personality and individual humanity still can bamboozle the cunting thing, meaning what could be excellently and insightfully written gets lost in translation if it's not a winner at keyword bingo, which is where we are with AI. There's a war on intellect taking place. That awful syntax we're all starting to recognise as the hallmarks of generative AI is what's taking over, it needs to be the standard if you want to get past the initial phase of AI filtering, resulting in awful homogenised output which is largely the same, because it has to be, which will make it even more standardised after that.

The future isn't what it used to be.

Are you vaguely referring to Jason Arday? D'interweb is really going to town on him, the poor eejit. I mean, it looks like he brought it on himself with his made up stories, some of which are hilarious, but I think the real criminals are Cambridge. The DEI phenomenon is somewhat interesting to me. I can understand giving people from underprivileged areas a leg up wherever possible, particularly if they show some potential. Why not! But when you just let any old bullshittter through the door to tick diversity boxes it is going to come around and bite you eventually.

In a broader context, it gives the populist right the perfect ammo to undermine the left. All of this stuff has to, by some degree, have fed into the phenomenon of Trump & Trump 2. Eejitry.

Loosely inspired by Arday, the gobshite, but more a musing on the rising use of AI to review documents which will drive more documents to be generated by AI in the first place which will lead to a lot more derivative content as there are just a handful of big players in the AI market. If 1,000 people ask Chat GPT the same question, they're going to get the same answer 1,000 times with only minor insubstantial variations. What we see with Arday is going to become a regular event, I fear.

Indian food is like manna from heaven on the way in and like a nuclear explosion from hell on the way out. Unreal.

Had a nice long holiday in India many moons ago. I took me about 4 days to develop that little pot belly from eating spicy food from morning till night...
Tandoori shark and grilled King Fish being the highlights...
Wonderful place and people...

I had to stop eating vindaloo on nights when I've work the following morning because it makes me late for work

Well I just had leftovers before I had dinner. A little top up to keep the wife and kid on their toes tomorrow morning  :vomit:

Forever getting caught ateing liquorice all sorts for breakfast.  At it again here in the back of a car going to Dublin.

About 20 years ago my granduncle died, and in true fashion meself and one of the brothers (the one that isn't Astfgyl there) went on the piss the night before the burial.  Don't remember much of it beyond getting into a spirits shelf in his house that a housemate filled with old pub stock of miscellaneous top shelf bottles.  Didn't sleep.  Came around in the sunrise trying to have a shower in his gaff to straighten myself up.

Rattled leaving his house, had to walk up the road to the mother's to get into a suit for the burial.  Needed a breakfast.  Quick stop into Centra but the deli was closed.  Fuck knows what possessed me but I bought a full bag of liquorice allsorts to keep me going.  It did nothing lol but I ate them all anyway.

On to the funeral where I was in a shocking state, could barely hold it together with the hangover.  As usual for the build of us, the three brothers selected as pallbearers along with some of our uncles.  I always say yes anyway it is an honour to do it for anyone.  Short but painful walk to the grave, trying to hold in fits of laughing because whatever way we had the coffin we had shifted all the weight down onto our smaller, older uncles and they were suffering with it.

Usual run of the burial bit, priest does the thing, and on comes the time to lower the coffin in.  The six of us get the straps and get ready.  Right as we all start lowering it, maybe a second into the slow drop, the whole fuckin strap slips through my drink-sweat hands.  One full corner of the coffin shifts and falls straight down into the grave.  I have to buckle up and hold it back to stop the entire thing collapsing but also try to make it not look I just dropped a coffin.  The rest of them cop it straight away and adjust, quickly, to do the only thing they could - go down as quick as me to get it level.  The lad's last slow descent was done in about .3 of a second.  Priest still reciting and we just stood there.

I thought I got away with it, of course given my mental condition from the sauce, and afterwards while the crowd is dispersing one of the uncles comes up to us.  "Fair dues for carrying the coffin lads" ah yeah sure no bother it is the thing to do.  He looks at me - "you were quick to get him into the ground though weren't you?"

Will never forget it.  And will think of it every single time I eat a bag of liquorice allsorts.

Ah jaysus, I shouldn't laugh but...

You should move on to Cough-in Drops

Ah I do be in stitches every time I think of it too.  Pure fear at the time mind

Definitely one for The Fear thread alright.

Just got a text from my mate

"Just been laid off. Fuck AI."

The robots are coming for us.
