The robots are coming for us.
Or maybe it was because of the new Liverpool manager?

Shit buzz. There's a lot more to come. Saw it summed up nicely recently

AI gives wealth access to skills while denying the skilled access to wealth.

One thing that I never really twigged about Eddie until recent times was that fact that he wasn't afraid to use use keyboards where someone else with his skillset would have forced in a guitar riff, songs like Jump, I'll wait etc

And The Cradle Will Rock is a great example of that. Most of it is a distorted (sounds to me like a) Fender Rhodes piano.

Quote from: ochoill on August 08, 2026, 10:53:06 AMForever getting caught ateing liquorice all sorts for breakfast.  At it again here in the back of a car going to Dublin.

About 20 years ago my granduncle died, and in true fashion meself and one of the brothers (the one that isn't Astfgyl there) went on the piss the night before the burial.  Don't remember much of it beyond getting into a spirits shelf in his house that a housemate filled with old pub stock of miscellaneous top shelf bottles.  Didn't sleep.  Came around in the sunrise trying to have a shower in his gaff to straighten myself up.

Rattled leaving his house, had to walk up the road to the mother's to get into a suit for the burial.  Needed a breakfast.  Quick stop into Centra but the deli was closed.  Fuck knows what possessed me but I bought a full bag of liquorice allsorts to keep me going.  It did nothing lol but I ate them all anyway.

On to the funeral where I was in a shocking state, could barely hold it together with the hangover.  As usual for the build of us, the three brothers selected as pallbearers along with some of our uncles.  I always say yes anyway it is an honour to do it for anyone.  Short but painful walk to the grave, trying to hold in fits of laughing because whatever way we had the coffin we had shifted all the weight down onto our smaller, older uncles and they were suffering with it.

Usual run of the burial bit, priest does the thing, and on comes the time to lower the coffin in.  The six of us get the straps and get ready.  Right as we all start lowering it, maybe a second into the slow drop, the whole fuckin strap slips through my drink-sweat hands.  One full corner of the coffin shifts and falls straight down into the grave.  I have to buckle up and hold it back to stop the entire thing collapsing but also try to make it not look I just dropped a coffin.  The rest of them cop it straight away and adjust, quickly, to do the only thing they could - go down as quick as me to get it level.  The lad's last slow descent was done in about .3 of a second.  Priest still reciting and we just stood there.

I thought I got away with it, of course given my mental condition from the sauce, and afterwards while the crowd is dispersing one of the uncles comes up to us.  "Fair dues for carrying the coffin lads" ah yeah sure no bother it is the thing to do.  He looks at me - "you were quick to get him into the ground though weren't you?"

Will never forget it.  And will think of it every single time I eat a bag of liquorice allsorts.

I'll stick this here...

The inventor of the throat lozenge has died.
There will be no coffin at his funeral.

Aye, already about 70% sure it'll cost me my job the next few years. Time to learn a trade

I'm definitely AI replaceable. Shit buzz

I know fuck all about AI.

From what I understand the idea is to have AI make decisions.

Where's the accountability then?

Who is accountable when It makes the wrong decision?

One of the big problems in this world is a lack of accountability, I can't see how introducing even less accountability is going to improve things.

Presumably the buck will legally have to stop with a human, but yeah, it has the potential to get very murky, very quickly, especially when it comes to life or death, or any other humanitarian situations. Of course, the thing about the law is that it's all a matter of perspective and who can paint the most convincing picture using the available facts. The truth is always up for grabs.

I have lots to give out about with AI but I won't get into all of it here.  But a quick one I heard lately is that there's now less intermediate level programmers available from the hiring pool because all the junior programmers in companies have been replaced by AI.  Entry level positions don't exist for people to get the experience needed to improve.  This is exactly what CGP Grey said would happen 12 years ago lol

I suppose this is topic related and can go in the Random Thoughts thread.  I have been gutting various digital services from my life.  Bar the gigging laptop (for now) everything has either Linux Mint or Debian on it now and I have been getting used/old/free laptops and PCs with reasonable spec to set up for home storage and services.

I must do a post in the DIY music thread on it but I have tested a Linux recording setup now and it works perfectly, no major teething issues, and it is a completely blank offline computer otherwise so no lag or bloat or hundred other services begging for shit.  It just records music.  That's it.  It's great

The developers thing is true, the kid of a friend of my wife is a developer for Microsoft, he said they stopped hiring junior developers early last year, it's all done by AI now but they still need more senior guys to verify what it codes before it gets implemented. When it gets better, they'll go too.

I went to Linux Mint across the house at the start of the year, with just a couple of exceptions. I still use an old version of itunes to sync music to my phone and can't get it to run well enough using Wine so I run Windows 10 with it as a VM inside Linux. My DAW is W10 because I've used Protools for over 20 years and spent too much on plugins over the years to fuck away 😂 But I have always run that PC offline, gutted out all the shit and it runs only the bare minimum of what Windows needs to function and Protools.

I work in manufacturing IT and have been tooling around with AI for a few years. It has been interesting watching it develop, but how this version of AI is being presented is a dirty fucking lie. It can be handy for certain things, definitely, data analysis and coding and the likes, but anyone using it for judgement calls is fucking insane.

The two biggest problems at the moment are it still doesn't know what's real or not and it lies, it makes things up, and presents them as truths. They are not small issues 🤔

Whoever cracks general AI, if that's even possible, wins everything. They will have an instant, massive advantage over the other AI services and it will only get bigger at incredible speed. Every business will need to use it and it will eliminate all competition and most non-manual jobs. One cunt, like Musk or Altman, is going to control fucking everything and the rest of them fade into insignificance quite quickly. Imagine that. That's why they're spending all the money they can find. It's like The Highlander, there can only be one.

There's talk of the coming AI crash. It could be that all of the companies that exist go bust, and take the world's economy with them, and then the second wave of companies may reap the rewards. All I know is, the last global recession was great craic indeed  :-X

It actually was great craic. It showed what people are all about. Same as that shitshow 6.5 years ago...
