He's an idiot, and a dick.

Never seen any of his podcast but I have come across bits of his ....ahem..."comedy"..... and I remember thinking that in future, if I wanted dietry advice I would seek him out.

Nothing antiseptic about pointing out a paid gatekeeping shill.

Quote from: The Butcher on August 14, 2026, 10:33:15 AMI've heard instances in the US where companies have had to rehire the developers they cut loose as they embarrassingly thought AI could do the job already. Also this  :-X  ->
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cgrkd41n2v9o

I'm in IT on the data end of things so yes probably another 5-15 years left before AI eats every single section of the work there, all dependent on advancements + how people work. Productivity has definitely jumped up a notch but if you kept up with that rate yourself you'd quickly suffer burn out. It's like the self-service checkouts reducing the staff at tills from 6+ to 1-2. Seen the programming team shrink naturally but not get replaced - down from 6 to 4 so far (AI assisted coding).

Yeah the hallucinations are something else though, always weary if I hear any financial people using it. But like crappy photoshop from the 90s, it will get better, just a matter of time. That time might get pushed out if the billions upon billions pumped doesn't offer a worthwhile return and the bubble pops in these big tech companies and the financial backers behind them. Maybe these companies see it as a race for survival, anyone that makes it out of the bubble pop still intact will reap the rewards next decade. Data centers currently being built on borrowed money that the AI companies think they will pay back with future revenues....mmm https://www.forbes.com/sites/brandonkochkodin/2025/11/19/trillion-dollar-ai-borrowing-binge-could-spark-the-next-credit-crunch/

I also think government policies on a range of issues is on a complete collision course with this AI development if jobs (livelihoods) start to disappear.

I studied computer science back in 2005, friends from back then have had a good few years of high pay/job security. I already know someone who was 'replaced' with "ai". The whole thing is a house of cards waiting to topple. Can't come sooner imho.

I used to listen to the odd JR podcast before he went to Spotify. He had a great knack for interviewing people, that's his biggest skill, which I think is being glided over. I have no interest in defending him because he seems to have given plenty of airtime to dodgy dealers, and doesn't have the insight to be able to challenge them where needed, but I think the reason he became so popular is that his show is often very engaging. He interviews all sorts so much of it was not of any interest to me, but some of the episodes I listened to were great craic.

General rule of thumb: The bigger the platform, the bigger the shill.

There's Two Types Of People In This World Who Truly Understand What's Going On...
Jews, And Antiseptics.

There's one group of people in this world who have no chance of understanding complex things like mRNA vaccines: those with 19th century views on race  :)
