Best - A Farewell to Kings.
Worst - Caress of Steel.

I love Caress of Steel! I'd say their worst is Roll the Bones or the debut. Debut isn't even that bad, just a bit too standard 70s rock

Exodus
Best- Tempo of the Damned
Worst - Force of Habit

Opeth
Best - Still Life
Worst - Pale Communion

Strapping Young Lad
Best - Alien
Worst - Heavy as a Really Heavy Thing

Actually I'll take Caress back, and out Presto in as their worst. Bastille Day is a decent tune and nothing on Presto comes close. I think the only song on Presto I halfway like is The Pass. And sure the riff is basically a lame re-write of Witch Hunt.

Manilla Road

Best: Open The Gates
Worst Metal/Circus Maximus

Only going with bands that I've heard all their stuff, so that rules out the likes of the Big 4.

Maiden
Best: Somewhere in Time
Worst: No Prayer for the Dying

The Crown
Best: Deathrace King
Worst: Death is not Dead

Kreator
Best: Terrible Certainty
Worst: Renewal

Amorphis
Best: Tales from the Thousand Lakes
Worst: Tuonela

Suicidal
Best: Lights Camera Revolution
Worst: World Gone Mad

Helloween
Best: Walls of Jericho
Worst: Chameleon

Interesting to note the amount of dislike for Mastodon's "Blood Mountain" - I rate it higher than "Crack The Skye".

Mastodon
Best: "Leviathan"
Worst: "Empire Of Sand" - but I have barely listened to "Hushed & Grim".

AC/DC
Best: "Let There Be Rock"
Worst: "Black Ice"

Metallica
Best: "Master Of Puppets"
Worst: "St. Anger" - haven't listened to any Metallica albums beyond this.

Thin Lizzy
Best: "Jailbreak"
Worst: "Shades Of A Blue Orphanage"

Queens Of The Stone Age
Best: "QOTSA"
Worst: "Era Vulgaris"

Black Flag
Best: "My War"
Worst: "What The..."

Elder
Best: "Lore"
Worst: "Innate Passage"

Electric Wizard
Best: "Come My Fantics..."
Worst: "Wizard Bloody Wizard"

High On Fire
Best: "Snakes For The Divine"
Worst: "Electric Messiah" - but the thing with High On Fire is that I genuinely think that they have not released an objectively bad record so calling "Electric Messiah" their worst feels off.

Surprised at the dislike for Blood Mountain too. I'd have it not far behind Leviathan (and it has a better production too).

I always thought The Hunter was their attempt to make something commercial. There's one or two tunes on it but it's surface level stuff, nothing with any true staying power.

Blood Mountain is grand, Bladecatcher aside. It just sits between Leviathan and Crack The Skye, their greatest achievements, which is an unfortunate place to be. Nothing after CTS has done anything for me, fierce dull songs going down all over the shop.

I'd probably put The Hunter as their worst. I rate Hushed And Grim very highly, which seems to put me in a minority on here at least.

I haven't heard all bands outputs and if it's clearly in their shit/modern era i haven't heard it so it doesn't count.

Eg

Slayer
Best: live undead
Worst: south of heaven
Overrated: reign in blood.
I have only heard single songs post-south of heaven....

Metallica
Best: puppets
Worst: black

Burzum
Best: HLTO
Worst: fallen

COF
Best: dusk
Worst: midian

Maiden
Best: the song Wasted Years
Worst: lot of competition here

D666
Best: Unchain
Worst: wildfire

Mgla
Best: whtn
Worst: exercises

Malthusian
Best: first demo
Worst: debut album

Mourning Beloveth
Best: a disease for the ages
Worst: rust

Primordial
Best: spirit
Worst: redemption

Dead Can Dance
Best: spleen
Worst: spirit chaser

DI6
Best: nada
Worst: all pigs must die

Steely Dan
Best: scam
Worst: countdown

Ulver
Best: nattens
Worst: blood inside

I will stop now as this could go on all night and I need to get up and check on lambs in the morning  :abbath:

Slough Feg
Best - Twilight Of The Idols
Worst - Digital Resistance

Seen as how I was listening to em today

Cannibal Corpse
Best: Kill.
Worst: Gallery of Suicide.

Despite a string of more recent bland albums, I think GoS is prob the most forgettable of the lot. From skin to liquid is class but the rest is just them plodding along imo.

Skeletal domain is prob my favourite personally, but Kill is a fantastically consistent record from start to finish. The old school stuff is ofc, great, but its hard for me to ignore how tight and consistent the playing is on the likes of kill.

QuoteBest: Kill.
Worst: Gallery of Suicide.

Nonsense

Cannibal Corpse - Best = First Four
Worst - Take your pick after Bloodthirst

Kill is a savage album but the albums 2 and 3 are another level.

Ill agree to disagree on the best ones so! ;) I discovered em somewhere around the wretched spawn release so retroactively absorbed the chris barnes era stuff. Theres alot to love there, and certainly the early albums moved the genre forward massively, so im conflicted. It almost seems like I should have done two lists, one for each era of the band

Some interesting lists, especially around Iron Maiden, Slayer, Cannibal Corpse, Death

Hear 'n Aid
Best - Hear 'n Aid (An All-Star Album For Famine Relief)
Worst - Hear 'n Aid (An All-Star Album For Famine Relief)
