How is Leprosy considered the worst????
Holy mother and the sweet baby Jesus.

Metallica
Best - Puppets/Lightning. Impossible to pick.
Worst - 72 Seasons. It's just awful.
St Anger is a band lost and operating on self help and prayers.
72 Seasons is just another collection of riffs not songs.
I understand the same can be said for any of the last few not this one annoys me the most.

Slayer
Best - RIB. Like a sonic razor.
Worst - Repentless. Stop shooting you cunt.

Emperor

Best - In The Nightside Eclipse
Worst - Prometheus. Not wacky enough for a solo album from Ishaan and not strong enough to be a classic.

Blood Mountain or The Hunter are Mastodon's worst. BM at best is not quite Crack the Skye, and The Hunter at best is not quite Once More Round the Sun. Emperor of Sand has almost the same relation to Hushed & Grim.

Slayer
Best: South Of Heaven, their most varied, skilful and bedt sounding.
Worst: Undisputed Attitude (if the covers album doesn't count then Diabolus In Musica).

Metallica: Ride The Lightning, it's not even close.
Worst: St. Anger of course.

Anthrax: Persistence Of Time, maturity suited them.
Worst: Stomp 442, just appalling.

Megadeth: Rust In Peace, their best line up peaked first time out.
Worst: Supercollider - when Megadeth reminds you of Bon Jovi, you know it's all over.

I'd agree until the final comparison. Emperor of Sand is infinitely better.

Prometheus, for me, is by far the best album by them. But im aware I may be alone in thinking this. Its honestly the only emperor album ive listened to frequently in the last decade. Utterly adore how bizzare the guitar playing is. The short repetitive phrases in tongue of fire, the undulating trem picked lows in wordless chamber, the wonky rythem in empty. Love it. His solo stuff however, never did a thing for me. It all feels like a pop version of prometheus minus the agression, where the songwriting never quite clicks.

Id second folks calling out the hunter. That was one of the most disappointing album releases for me, I was so hyped and I remember my seething rage on release day as I was expecting more crack the skye

Emperor of Sand is infinitely better than BM and The Hunter anyway. Maybe time'll prove me wrong, but personally can only see Hushed & Grim growing on people.

Ya, I wouldn't disagree with you there about hushed n grim. Only drawback is the run time imo, they coulda trimmed it. Some great tunes on there. Even bothered my hole to learn how to play one of em, lets just say I wouldnt be arsed learning anything off the hunter  ;)

Darkthrone
Best: Goatlord/Funeral Moon
Worst: I mean..pick anything from Plaguewielder up until about Old Star

Carcass:
Best: Symphonies of Sickness
Worst: Swansong

Emperor Of Sand is so, so boring.
Take out Blood Mountain and I think they their discography is excellent.

The Hunter and Once More Round The Sun almost feel like a double album that were released separately to me. Love them.

Nothing wrong with Blood Mountain apart from Bladecatcher, that's just annoying. I love The Hunter, it might be more catchty and commercial than their other material but that doesn't make it bad like, say, Youthanasia.

Mastodon's best: Crack The Skye. Took a while to click but it's been a favourite since. I love the progginess of it, it's the first time they really stretched their musical wings.

Their worst: Emperor Of Sand, as Circlepit said it's just boring. Hushed And Grim wouldn't be far behind it in that regard either.

Exactly. It's a chore to get through. It out me off them completely, never bothered with Hushed And Grin.

Faith No More
Best - That's a hard one to call. It's either TRT or KFAD.... These 2 outshine Angel Dust for me.  Nostalgia plays a major part in why I love The Real Thing. I'd never heard anything like it before.
KFAD has brilliant song writing.

Worst - Sol Invictus. The fact that it was Faith No More made it exciting at the time but it's one I rarely reach for nowadays.

Alice In Chains
Best - Dirt (Jar Of Flies so close to the top spot too)
Worst - The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here

Faith No More
Best - Angel Dust (The Real Thing a very close second)
Worst - Album Of The Year

Paradise Lost
Best - Draconian Times
Worst - Medusa

Type O Negative
Best - Bloody Kisses
Worst - Dead Again

Suicidal Tendencies
Best - How Will I Laugh Tomorrow
Worst - World Gone Mad

So many big bands I've no idea what their worst album is, 'cos I completely checked out X number of rehashes or risible experiments ago. Choosing would be like pissing on lumps of shite stuck to the bowl and seeing which one slides off first.

I've added an overrated/underrated category.

Black Sabbath
Best: Sabotage
Worst: Forbidden (although it's not as bad as folk say)
Overrated: Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, but I should also add that a bewildering amount of people seem to regard the Tony Martin albums as lost classics.
Underrated: Dehumanizer

Iron Maiden
Best: A Matter Of Life and Death or Somewhere In Time
Worst: Killers
Overrated: Piece Of Mind
Underrated: The X Factor

Metallica
Best: Ride The Lightning
Worst: St. Anger (duh)
Overrated: Kill 'Em All
Underrated: Load

Judas Priest
Best: Painkiller or Stained Class (depends on the day)
Worst: Ram It Down
Overrated: Killing Machine/HBFL
Underrated: Sin After Sin or Jugulator

Cathedral
Best: The Carnival Bizarre
Worst: Caravan Beyond Redemption
Overrated: The Ethereal Mirror
Underrated: Endtyme

Megadeth
Best: Youthanasia
Worst: Endgame
Overrated: Rust In Peace
Underrated: Killing Is My Business

AC/DC
Best: Let There Be Rock
Worst: There isn't an obvious one. Can't recall being too impressed with Stiff Upper Lip though
Overrated: Again, no obvious contender
Underrated: Ballbreaker

Thin Lizzy
Best: Thunder And Lightning
Worst: Shades Of A Blue Orphanage maybe?
Overrated: No obvious contender here. I could say Jailbreak because folk tend to cite that album and ignore the rest of the discography, but no album with 'Emerald' on it as the closer can really be criticised that much.
Underrated: Vagabonds Of The Western World or Chinatown

Motorhead
Best: Another Perfect Day
Worst: I wasn't too impressed with Rock N Roll but it's been ages since I listened to it.
Overrated: No obvious contender again
Underrated: Bomber
