Grateful Dead is probably the best comparison for the jam band nature of the live shows, same for Billy.

I'll raise you Dead Skeletons - Dead Mantra

That drums and bass line, ooooffff

I've started taking a trip back to some early-mid 2000s stuff that was popular with the teens at the time but that I had no interest in (mostly just a nostalgia by exposure kind of phase).

Jimmy Eat World - Bleed American
I wasn't super into this. A handful of good songs, but a bunch I was genuinely struggling to get through.

Fall Out Boy - From Under the Cork Tree
An absolutely enormous band that I skipped entirely bar the odd single I heard at the time. I was actually pleasantly surprised with this. Good crunching guitars, some interesting riffs, and cool song arrangements. The vocals are far too pop for me and the lyrics are definitely geared towards the young folk, but overall I was expecting this to be shit and it was a solid listen. It's interesting too because when I gig local around Edmonton, it feels like Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance are still the two biggest bands by far among the young folk of today.

When Eternal Champion played here a few years back there were more than a few people there who had definitely came straight from the My Chemical Romance gig on the same day.

Now could be da's bringing their kids as a 'I'll bring you to my gig if you come to mine', or maybe there's a pop-punk to true metal pipeline I'm blissfully unaware of!  :abbath:.

You'd genuinely be surprised how many people I know into pop punk who love Eternal Champion. There's some vague connection to the punk/hc scene there that I'm forgetting right now. That band Sumerlands too.

Television - Marquee Moon.

Haven't spun this in a long time, and forgot what a total banger it is.

Hell yeah. RIP Fred Smith. Will throw it on the turntable this evening  :abbath:

As a follow up, I tried to listen to Fall Out Boy a second time and had to turn it off. I just can't hack those vocals.

Strayed even further to the dark side though and went right to the heart of Pitchfork indie hipsterism:

Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
I've listened to this twice before over the years and thought it was ok, but his voice a bit grating. Listened to it yesterday and I loved it. Sometimes it's just time. It's hard to separate it a little from the sheer avalanche of insufferable prickdom that followed in its wake, but it's a genuinely cool mix of folk and indie with dashes of punk and psychedelia.

Arcade Fire - Funeral
This was my first listen to this. It's currently in the "fine" camp, but there's a lot going on there and I suspect that somewhere down the line it will also become an album I love.

Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion
I wasn't feeling the vocals on this, but the instrumentation is so dense that it was interesting try to pick through it all. Will definitely requires more listens and familiarity though to truly unpack it.

Cindy Lee- What's Tonight To Eternity.

I saw one of my local dealers stocking this and it's cool artwork and album title drew me in. I have only had a listen to the first song but it sounds really interesting and unique. That said, there are elements of Kate Bush and Björk (but not as annoying at least on that song) to be heard. I'll give the whole thing a spin this evening.

If you like that definitely follow up with Diamond Jubilee, it's truly a modern masterpiece (and I'm not throwing that term around loosely).

Nice one. Never heard of that but I'll give it a go.

It's Cindy Lee's most recent album. Out a couple of years ago.

Ah, cool. She's completely new to me .
