A Tribe Called Quest – The Low End Theory

Brilliant album.
Love the double bass.

I've always been an Abbey Road guy when it comes to The Beatles, but this one was hitting really hard for me this morning. So many fucking amazing songs. I've never been a Beatles superfan or anything, but they definitely grow more and more on me as the years go by. I can't even imagine what it must have been like to hear them in the 60s when they were completely revolutionizing music.

My uncle is a Beatles fanatic, he gave me a load of their cassettes when I was in secondary school. The White Album was sun-damaged, so it made the songs sound woozy, almost like listening to the early Pavement EPs. It's a strange album anyway, but the warped tape made it sound even stranger. I was obsessed with that album, and when I eventually heard it properly years later on CD I was a bit disappointed. Still waiting for them to release the sun-damaged remaster

Edit: Even got a bit of proto-Angine de Poitrine from parts of Sleepless last night!

Went to see the Beat tour in London last month. Absolutely superb gig! Love that Crimson era too

ha, just seeing in your quote, that should be "70s peers" not "70s pairs"

I'd say that was a great show alright. A band I unfortunately don't think I'll ever get to cross off my bucket-list.

Saw Beat in the Amphitheatre in Pompei last week. Fucking savage.

Is it make Chris jealous with gigs in the amphitheatre in Pompeii season or something? Jim from Era V sends me a message this morning going "I'm going to see Opeth supported by Blood Incantation tonight in the amphitheatre in Pompeii. I reckon it might be alright."  :eyeroll:

   It's a better than average venue, I reckon

First time seeing Vai, too. He's got a lot of potential. He might make it.

Vai is great live. Saw him solo in Vicar Street way back, and then with Dweezil, also in Vicar Street (great venue, albeit not the fucking amphitheatre in Pompeii, I'll grant you!  ).

Now, since Beatles discussion got interwoven with King Crimson discussion, Thrak: most Beatlesy KC album...?

Was it the Vai show supported by Erik Sardinas? The one where Vai wore the laser suit? That was an awesome show. I walked in halfway through Sardinas' set and I don't think the atmosphere of a live show has ever hit me in such a wave before.

Funny, when Vai's set started there was this little skinny, short, short-haired guy in sunglasses and with a Vai guitar comes out onstage. He's playing, headbanging in a super nerdy way, all goofy happy to be there. I'm like, is that Vai??? Total disappointment. Of course, then Vai himself glides onto the stage a couple of minutes later in all his glory

Haha, yeah, the very one. Although he played two nights, so don't know if we were at exact same show. I was there the first, as I remember being sorely tempted to go back the next night too, and would have if I'd been living in town already. Virgil Donati's drum solo too, holy fuck, had never seen anything like it.

Daydream Plus- Second last day of summer

Sunny sounding noodley/mathy instrumental stuff which somehow sounds like Braid style 90s emo and Japanese city pop at the same time. Nice Sunday morning music.

Shockingly- and I only found this out after hearing a few tunes- this band is actually three quarters of Tomb Mold  Absolutely no way you'd know.
