I've only just started listening to Lankum in the last day or two and I'm loving them so far. Sounds like the kind of music you'd hear in a Robert Eggers film.

I'd agree generally, a real "right, we get it" trend at this stage (probably why I never bothered seeking it out initially), I just enjoyed this particular performance.

Dont get me wrong, i've a lot of time for Lankum/OneEyeOneLeg, I think they're fantastic and they can't control other bands wanting to copy them. I just don't need any more spin offs or soundalikes because a lot of it is enormously dull. Pains me to say it but as an example - I liked the Oxn album when it came out but it hasn't held up for me.. I'm delighted to see Katie Kim doing well out of it but she deserves it more for her own stuff I reckon.

Played with a band called Adventurer recently who were the only thing in that sphere I've found interesting but that's about it.Not sure how they'd translate in recorded form though.

Isn't someone from that Dawn Ray'd band doing a "dark folk" project now? That says it all really..

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Yes I would really love to hear more Katie Kim solo stuff, her last album was great, been listen to her albums a fair bit recently. OXN definitely like a dilution of the sum of its parts (would be more of a fan of all the members' other work)

Yeah, saw them with a friend last year and she rightfully pointed out that it kinda felt like some of it was just Lankum without the male vocals.
Percolator are also seriously underrated, definitely time they put something new out as the last few times I'd seen them they were incredible.

So in summary, Waterford> Dublin

Lankum are class but ya, OXN did fuck all for me either.

Stars Of The Lid – The Tired Sounds Of Stars Of The Lid

I have this album for years, & I don't think I've ever finished it!

Ambient-drone

I bought it at their gig in Cork, & just asked the merch guy which one should I buy
This was it

Funnily enough I had their "Avec Laudanum" on last night and fell asleep to it, but to my mind they're kinda designed for that!

Well going by the title there it certainly seems that way

Still big in The Pogues phase. Anyone got any good recs for anyone similar? And I don't mean those big crunching guitar celtic punk bands that sound like The Offspring but with Irish melodies, but more like the Pogues themselves; traditional type songs and instruments played with a punk energy and spirit. Bonus points if they have a good lyricist too.

Aye.

Speaking of which, whatever happened with Beano? Last I heard was a fundraiser gig a few years ago and nothing since. Is he still with us?

New Order: Movement

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club: B.R.M.C.

Saw them touring this in the Olympia, great band then but a bit 'one act'.

I've been super into Movement of late as well. It feels almost more like Joy Division 3 than New Order 1 to me. The singles New order were releasing around that time sound like New Order, but Movement is so different in its feel. Would have been interesting to see what Ian Curtis would have done with it.
