I only pulled out "White Chalk" the other day for the first time in ages. Fantastic album. I'd agree, there's some albums of hers I like more than others but she hasn't put out anything I dont like.

They showed the first couple of series of Later With Jools Holland on one of the satellite channels a few weeks ago, PJ Harvey's first appearance (hairy armpits an' all) was on one episode. Naked Cousin was a great tune, think it's a B-side or session track.

New Lankum track, cover of the Specials' song:

Decent enough, the end is a bit odd for them. Although they tend to do their own thing anyway so it's on brand, so to speaķ.

Watched it this morning. Definitely an unexpected ending, but class.

Maybe mentioned elsewhere already but I'm really enjoying the new album by Just Mustard. Only checked them out because they are supporting The Cure next year but have been spinning the album repeatedly all week.

INXS: Kick - a band I had zero interest in at the time but a friend is a huge fan (to the point of doing a spot on Hutchence impression) so I said I'd give them a go. It's alright...

PJ Harvey: Rid Of Me

Love me some PJ Harvey, been listening to 'Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea' and the Peel Sessions which I recall was my introduction to her back in the day.

Husker Du - jan 30 first ave pt 2

This is on Spotify but I think it's part of a boxset they're releasing this year called Miracle Year (IE all the stuff they did in 1985, including two albums and a bunch of live recordings).

This specific live recording is awesome. Focuses on a lot of the New Day Rising stuff, but with a live sound that's a little bit closer to Zen Arcade. Great stuff. Man I fucking love Husker Du. It's worth repeating on here every few months

Tonight I've had

Bruce Springsteen - Nebraska
The Beatles - Self Titled
Madonna - The Immaculate Collection
Cajmere - Techno > Funk

Decent night for the tunes indeed

The Fall - The Unutterable

"I was in the realm of the essence of Tong"  :)

Traded in a bunch of shit punk/metal lps for some vinyl copies of old classics today (no means no, tom waits, cindy lee, etc), and while I was in there I picked up Feeo's "Goodness" which is absolutely stunning. Great late night reord that puts me in mind of everything from Portishead and Joni Mitchell through to King Midas Sound or Htrk. Two thumbs up.

Jim Sullivan and Bill Fay both in heavy rotation the last few days too.

John Carpenter:The Fog. (Which was fucking perfect for this evening's walk)
Gang Starr:Hard To Earn
Chat Pile/Hayden Pedigo:In The Earth Again

Walking home from an ex's one night, pitch black alleys behind houses and all that, misty weather. Lost Themes was the business for it.

Love part 1 and 2 of Lost Themes. Great albums. Haven't got around to listening to part 3 yet

Jóhann Jóhannsson's score for Mandy is another great one for this time of year.
