(Sketches for) My Sweetheart the Drunk. It's a different record to Grace (more uniform and straight forward in style), but every bit as good.

Katatonia even did a cover of "Nightmares by the Sea" all the way back on Tonight's Decision.

That's the one. The song they showcased in the interview was called... Toronto... Nova Scotia... somewhere up there. It sounded quite complex.

Vancouver

On a related note, Grace released this day (15/08) 31 years ago. Minty good timing there.

Think Jeff is all I'm gonna be listening to now for the weekend. It's been a while and I already have fucking goosebumps two songs into Sketches.

Long time since I've put on Grace. Must stick it on too. 31 years, though... fuck me  ???

Grace is Lethal, almost flawless album, the trick is to get a digital copy of it and delete Hallelujah from it.  Makes it 10/10.  With that song left on there it is practically unlistenable.

Sketches... has some great songs on it but is a bit scattered as an album to me.  I guess that's the idea.  It has one of his absolute best songs going on it though, this: https://youtu.be/yJQfEadrnmQ?si=weer7wU_xM_RsLx2

Also the Live in Chicago set is unreal, the versions of the songs on it are class, Eternal Life would melt your face.

For some reason there's an edit on YouTube that has half the set removed and is down as "remastered", don't bother with it, the link there is the actual full set.

Compilation of hard industrial techno.  Blistering.  Does exactly one thing but the one thing is lethal.
Yes.

You're making me book a flight
Stop lol the same day I found this album I was told there was a rave on in Pharmacia, nearly went in only nobody else would have even entertained the idea

His version of Hallelujah is Gagarin in fairness. It just became a bit cliche.

Edit. No idea what Gagarin means, but what I intended to say was "great".

Is there a "controversial non-metal opinions" thread? Because they're should be with the Hallelujah dissin'  :abbath:

 no it's very bad.  So is the original.  So is any version of it really the best thing to do is just pretend it doesn't exist

Great song, just overplayed.

Sketches... is the one that got me into him, Live a l'Olympia is another class one.

I don't think i'm ever going to forget the first time I heard Jeff. This would be it. A couple of mates and I were having cans in the kitchen with the tv on before fucking off somewhere for the night an this floored us:

Very underrated as a guitar player too. One of the better ones of the 90s, though never talked about in those terms. Likely obscured slightly because he had such a Gagarin voice.

Back in my teens when I was fresh enough into death and black metal Grace was the first non-metal album I bought in years after seeing the video for the title track on TV. Was blown away. Still love it. Sketches was always fine but obviously unfinished.

Grace is a stone cold classic. And the Hallejuah version is brilliant. Jesus can you imagine what he'd have gone on to do.
