I keep forgetting about this album and then remember how excellent it is every time I stumble upon it again

Most of the Cult of Fire and Howls of Ebb discographies. The latter really are just about the finest metal band of recent times.

Iron Bonehead are getting copies of the Herxheim demo from NWN. Better keep the eyes peeled for that one.

Trollmann av Ildtoppberg- Tolling Beyond the Gates of Ancient Grimnity

Steadily working my way through their catalogue having picked up the Dungeon Tapes editions a few months ago but only getting my new tape deck last week.  Perfect early morning listening.

Ah, good to know, cheers.

Funkadelic - Maggot Brain

Not metal but this shit is amazing. Eddie Hazel should be regarded up there with Hendrix.

Perversor - Umbravorous

No frills old school knuckledraggery, love it!!!

Just stuck this up on Spotify...

It has the typical acoustic intro that lasts about a minute and a half, then first proper song starts with it's own intro that takes about two minutes and goes absolutely nowhere. The song proper is a mish mash of different bits that don't fit and has one of the most piss weak guitar solos I've heard in a long time.

Then that "Ripper" song has a laughable attempt at a similar sounding break to the Spanish guitar on "Holy Wars...". And it's another stop and start affair. I can imagine them in the studio like the Eurovision episode of Father Ted "wait, wait, I can get this bit..."

It's a similar style to Nevermore and early Megadeth, but to actually compare them is an insult to both bands.

Sorry!

Mighty harsh there Duckz, I think most fans of the aformentioned bands would dig this record to some degree, I even get a bit of a Queensyrche buzz of it at times ....
Not everything can be as perfect as your beloved "Human" lad ! Cool you gave it a go though, kudos.

First time I've heard Satan's vocalist ripped off by another band. Intro also sounds like ripped off Annihilator. Grand stuff, but pretty incoherent alright, no "sound" of their own, just a jigsaw puzzle of other band's sounds. If they're all young lads, then they may yet fashion their own style out of it all.

Electric Wizard - Let us Prey

Underrated record.

I've been know to like Human a wee bit alright!

I commented as it can be just as interesting to discuss music that doesn't appeal (and it's in no way a slight upon your listening choices!). I jumped straight on it as I'm a massive Nevermore fan, equally so of the obvious Megadeth albums (was spinning RiP at the weekend so was well up for similar sounds). I'd be a reasonable fan of Testament and would give Forbidden the odd spin too and good new tunes are always a treat.

It just came across as copy and pasted ideas from a lot of those other bands. I understand that a lot of music is written piecemeal and assembled together into songs, but the skill is making them seamless. You can see the bits of sellotape keeping their tunes together.

There's just no confidence in their playing. There was one bit in a song that sounded like a picking exercise that wasn't up to speed yet (and it served no purpose other than to kill 30 seconds before the song switched to a different instrumental passage).

Their third album could be a corker, so they could be one to watch as I do enjoy the style.

Are you a musician yourself? Just wondering as it may account for you picking up on things that I as a non musician don't ( ignorance is bliss though!) ?
Also,.just to say I've been through the album once on YT  before banging in an order ,it may indeed arrive with complimentary sellotape for the more analytical ear but if I get what I got from the first listen I'll be chuffed.
