WINDIR - Soknardalr
DIMMU BORGIR/ OLD MAN'S CHILD - Son's of Satan Gather For Attack
MOONSPELL - Heritage
ENTOMBED - Bowels of Earth
TROUBLE - s/t
ENSLAVED - Mardraum

MASTODON - Hushed and Grim

What do you make of that Windir?

One of my favourite bands but that debut never clicked with me at all. The production is woeful, the ferocity of the later stuff is lacking as result. Few good choons but it's nowhere near as good as Arntor or Likferd.

Mastodon: Once More 'Round The Sun

Seems apt.

Yeah I don't like the debut at all, it's the one album of theirs that I haven't bought.

Had a Mastodon binge on a 6 hour bus journey the other day and this is definitely my favourite album of theirs, absolute belter from start to finish and packed with class riffs.

Well like I mentioned in the off topic I'm only just starting down the Windir road and I was surprised , maybe even disappointed, that it wasn't more harsh, frostbitten, abrasive as I had in my head they would be. Now that I think of it, I probably developed that perception from knowing how the lad met his end. It's grand like, very lead guitar driven. Funny the youtube guy in Australia that I watch, Simon, was saying the exact same thing really and just picked up the  Arntor reissue out of them all, mentioning it in his end of year best reissues list.
Still, if it only gets better from here, I've lots to look forward to.

Arntor is a terrific album, my favourite of theirs. So good on every level. Soknet and the Troll one, two of the greatest tracks in any genre of metal.

Satisfaction guaranteed :)

Today's listening...

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
YOB - Clearing the Path to Ascend
Holy Terror - Terror and Submission
Holy Terror - Mind Wars

I'd heard of Windir but never checked them out as I thought they were pure raw black metal type stuff which I hate.
Had a flick through the second album on YouTube and immediately got it. Sounds class.
Love those melodies and the clean vocals tie it all together.
Great stuff.

Obsequiae - Suspended in the Brume of Eos
Obsequiae - Aria of Vernal Tombs
There's no one quiet like them that I've found yet.

Will have to throw on the lovely Windir represses later. Superb winter black metal and another band that stand pretty much alone in my mind.

Panopticon - Kentucky , an amazing album. USBM mixed with country. Americana.

Satyricon - Deep calleth upon deep.
Nordic metal -Tribute to euronymous.
Funeral Mist - Deiform.
Gospel of the Horns - Eve of the conqueror.
Sigh - Scorn defeat.

Love that album, his best work and the best mix of the two styles he's going for. Love a we stand against the suppressor union song which helps. Noone could listen to black soot and blood red with out getting unite the workers psyched.
