Satyricon - Rebel Extravaganza

I always get shit for this being my favourite Satyricon album but it really is.

Satyricon- Dark Medieval Times.

Did you get that reissue? Ordered it from Scobes last week. Never had a legit copy of it before so I'm excited.

Yep,  I picked up the 'Dark Medieval Times' and 'The Shadowthrone' reissues on CD a few weeks ago. I had never bought them either. I always liked bits and pieces by Satyricon but always found a full album a bit of a slog so I wasn't in any particular rush to get the older albums. Turns out that was a big mistake as they are easily the best albums by them. Been listening to them a lot. I actually even prefer the new artwork on both as well, even though there's a certain charm to the original shitty covers.

Edit. That said, 'Mother North' is still one of my favorite BM songs even if the rest of 'Nemesis Divina' doesn't live up to the same standard.

Cancer- Death shall rise

Death Shall Rise is one of the finest death metal albums ever released and was among my first introductions to the genre. Only recently came across this video on Youtube. No expense spared.

One of my favourites. That, To The Gory End and The Sins Of Mankind are about to be reissued with bonus material, by Peaceville:

Great news. Never had their debut and managed to lose The Sins of Mankind somewhere between Melbourne and Singapore having purchased in the former for a mere $5. Peaceville are some label for reissues. Were Cancer scheduled to play in Cork last year?

It would be right up there for me anyway, Volcano is another favourite.  The real reason I'm answering here though is to mention that I just picked up the self titled album. I was so put off by all the terrible reviews at the time it came out that I basically pulled a St Anger and decided if that many peers, mates and reviewers I respect dislike it then I just ain't gonna waste my money. Well, I've got it now and it is ,indeed, the worst thing they've ever put out. I
The curse of the completist I suppose.

Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast

I watched the classic albums ep of this last night, on a whim. By the end of that, I just had to listen to it in full, as I'd been left wondering throughout why it wasn't higher up in my list of favourite Maiden albums. And of course, when I threw the album on after, the explanation came in one of the songs not touched in the documentary, which unfortunately happens to be the album opener: Invaders. I'm tempted to make a "Poor openers on otherwise excellent albums" thread inspired by it.

Invaders is a ripper!

For me, it's the poorest track on the album, so relatively speaking at least that makes it a poor opener.
