Nile's new one - "Vile Nilotic Rites". Didn't even realise they had a new one except Google gave me a notification this morning (how times change, fucking hell).

It sounds a smidge more straight up tech-death than their older ones, but it's also absolute savagery.

Gave the Nile a spin earlier, pretty ferocious alright,i kinda only dipped in and out of the last few albums, you need to be in a certain mood for later day Nile.

I'm listening to Finn Mckenty's old school death metal Spotify playlist. It's great. Lots of bands I never heard before like Origin and Grave. Search "what killed death metal"

Ulver- Bergtatt. Amazingly sophisticated music to have been made by a bunch of teenagers.  The LP arrived yesterday and it looks and sounds fantastic.  Despite being relatively familiar with Ulver's early stuff, and owning several of their non-BM albums,  I've somehow never picked the classics up, so these Century Media LP editions are most welcome.  I'd like to grab the snazzy boxset but it's a bit steep for me these days. It's a pity that Garm isn't making any metal music anymore beyond guest appearances here and there.

Reading the biography on the inlay really pushes home just how fertile and precocious the Norwegian BM scene was back in the 90s. There was no end of young, creative and serious musicians for bands to choose from.  I need a time machine...

Is there a vinyl boxset reissue? I had seen the cd one but I've got the individual albums bar the demo on cd. I seriously need nattens on vinyl anyhows.
Bergtatt and Nattens Madrigal are two of my favourite albums from that era, normally break them out at this time of year too.

Century Media has the CD boxset.  I think there is a vinyl one,  too.  Looks stunning but I don't have the money for it.

Much to my surprise I've been glued to it. It's easily their best record since Annihilation of the Wicked.

Plus, "The Oxford Handbook of Savage Genocidal Warfare" is just too snappy a title

New Slipknot album.  No idea what I think of this band. Like some of their stuff but struggle a bit too with the relentless pounding on some tracks.

Slipknot were a gateway band for me so I'll always have a soft spot for them, probably one of the first times I heard blastbeats, but I haven't really bothered with them since Iowa

The Order - Rockwolf

I went to Switzerland to see Coroner at the weekend and one of the other bands at the festival played high-quality, if not hugely original, 80's style hard rock. I really enjoyed them and commented to my mate that it was like 1986 all over again. When I went out to check their merch after the set and saw one of their albums was actually called "1986", well, they got my money

If a mix of Van Halen, Motley Crue, Dokken, maybe some Last Command/Electric Circus WASP appeals, with a slightly heavier edge, then these guys are well worth a look.

Why bother going all that way when they played in Collon in dear little County Louth last July?

Malevolent Creation -The Ten Commandments, top 5 all time DM album for me,absolute monster!

Zemial 'In Monumentum'. Savage album.
