I know many here talk write about this album frequently, but it's 30 years old this summer. Where has time gone ? (etc). Still an album with complexities I can enjoy to this day, still gives me a happy/creative/inspiring feeling depending on the songs I'm listening to from it.

Currently checking out BlackBraid, who seem to be making a bit of a buzz because it's black metal by some native americans, with native american lyrical themes. Totally standard BM, albeit done well. For the kind of BM fan who somehow manages to get excited about every BM release, no matter how derivative, or for the kind of metal fan who has never really gotten into BM but will be attracted to the whole native american schtick and get into BM through this. In short, not for me, but not bad:

I have to resist Cruelty. It always very much played second fiddle to Dusk for me.

Dismember-where Iron Crosses grow

The Blood Divine- Awaken.

I remember these guys getting a bit of coverage in Metal Hammer in the mid 90s and hearing a song on one of the free compilation CDs. I thought it was crap back then and listening to it these days I get all the reasons why it wouldn't have appealed to my tender ears. It's all of those features that are what appeal to me these days. Mood-wise, if not exactly musically, it reminds me a bit of Geasa. I see it's cheap enough to grab on Discogs so I'll have to nab a copy of this and the follow up at some stage.

Always had a soft spot for that album myself, have it on the b side of Alternative 4 ,they work well together I suppose. The vinyl is only 12bucks at Hammerheart presently. Very much of a time and era but I still enjoy it today, even if as only a conduit to the past.

Ex COF and Anathema mainly, I think. I liked Aureole off the debut (the one that was on all the compilations) but the album didn't do much for me at the time. They had a second album that slipped under the radar too, if memory serves.

Aureole was the song on the CD comp Mr Mclove was referring to as well. Might check the album out and see if it's anyway decent.
