Hazemaze - Blinded By The Wicked
Mountain Throne - The Silver Light
Warlock - Burning the Witches
Gjendod - I Utakt Med Verden

Talion - Killing The World 8/10
One and done for this post NWOBHM act back in 1989 but they made it count, it's a gem which never fails to remind me of Hallow's Eve, particularly that Sheepdog Mc Laren vocal style.

Dark Heresy - Abstract Principles Taken To their Logical Extremes 7/10
Certainly one of the most unconventional takes on Death Metal, on my shelves anyway, Benediction meets Sabbat...at twilight ..in an abandoned fairground...soon to be joined by a sinister troupe of travelling minstrals and various ne'er-do-wells. Dennis Wheatley is present. As is David Bowie, Dani Filth and half of Ackercocke.  All a little too adventurous at times for my spartan tastes and waaay to long to hold the attention but often beguiling and ahead of its time no doubt.

Violent Sin- Serpent's Call 7/10
As always I'm a sucker for a cool band name so I jumped on this Dying Victims release back in '23, not entirely unexpected, it's highly derivative stuff in the vein of Exciter, Destruction or Razor . Chaotic, messy and highly interchangeable tracks fly by in the 37 mins playing time, their harem- scarem style an obvious ode to the glorious eighties but it's a crowded scene for bands like this at the minute and they've a bit to go to get up there with the likes of Vulture for song writing chops.

The attempt at jazz on that Dark Heresy album was enough for my never to return to it.

 yeah, that's one of the offending bits alright.

This is a message from the future*:

Beherit- Engram.

*I pulled it off the shelf for a revisit in the car tomorrow morning.

The Moon Lay Hidden Beneath A Cloud- A New Soldier Follows The Path Of A New King.

Pestilence - Consuming Impulse, Testimony..., Spheres

Consuming Impulse is hitting the spot in the way it hasn't done for a long time

Cwfen-Sorrows

Really solid album.Looking forward to seeing them play with Paradise Lost.I think they have a fine balance between goth/metal/doom and the female vocals don't overpower the music.

Faithful Breath - Gold 'n' Glory 7.5/10
70's German prog rockers streamlined their sound in 1984 to cater to the burgeoning Hard Rock/Heavy Metal crowd resulting in an enjoyable if generic fifth record that no doubt snagged plenty of Saxon/Scorpions/Accept fans at the time.

Evil Angel - Unholy Evil Metal 6/10
Fiendish Finns kicking up an ugly,  bestial noise back in 2019. Knuckledragging, primitive odes to Satan.,a whiff of very early Sepultura. Can't accuse them of false advertising anyway.

A message from the present:

It's been a long time since I've put this on. I think in the past I preferred the immediacy of the first 3 songs to the rest. As I listen now I actually think the meat of the album only really starts to show up from song 4 (Pagan Moon) onwards. That's where it becomes a little more unpredictable and spiced up with (moderate) weirdness.
