Dream Theater - Dream Theater

Always seemed like a bit of an overlooked album, sandwiched between their first one with Mangini, and the absolute nadir of The Astonishing. Decent enough though

Mysteries- In the Darkness and Sodomy.

Quote from: Thorn on May 28, 2025, 09:11:43 PMNew Sargeist has sneaked out, one listen on YouTube but it's a mandatory purchase for me. They really do fit more quality riffs into one song than a lot of BM bands manage on an album.

Oh I'll need to get on this, I'm only a recent Sargeist convert and have had Let the Devil in on heavy rotation the last couple of months.

Satyricon - DMT
Abhorration - Demonolatry
Ascended Dead - Evenfall of the Apocalypse
Forbidden Temple - In The Rotten Grave
Goatlord  - Reflections of the Soltice
Belial - Wisdom of darkness
Funereal Presence  - The Archer Takes Aim

Drudkh - A Furrow Cut Short.
Grand Magus - Sunraven
Benediction - Ravages of Empires
Hexecutor - ...Where Spirit Withers In it's Flesh Constraint
Seven Sisters - Shadow of a Fallen Star PT 2.
Challenger - Force of Nature

With all the Mourning Beloveth chat, it popped into my head to see what Adrian was up to these days. Turns out he's in a kind of post-rock/neofolk/doom project with Brian and Darren! They released this full album last year:

The first track didn't grab me, but it picked up from there.

It's Shatraug now on vocals and he does not sound good. By the looks of the recent live videos his stage presence is awful. Seen them live twice once with Hoath Torog in 2014 and then the second time with Profundus in 2017. Hoath was the best but Profundus was also great. I wouldn't be too bothered seeing them live with the current line-up.

Incantation - "Diabolical Conquest". A feral animal of a record.

Savage album. Almost as good as Onward to Golgotha which is one of the greatest death metal album ever made.

NP Putrid Offal - Sicknesses Obsessions

Yep that's the only gripe with the new one, the vocals are a pretty monotonous drone throughout, totally at odds with the constant shifts in mood provided by the excellent riffage.

Always had a soft spot for these boys, the small fish in the big pond of German Heavy Metal and Thrash.
Album number ten now is business as usual but the band sound fresh and energetic, delivering another batch of classic Metal tracks ensured to keep my spot soft.

Sacred Steel are an acquired taste for some people but , those people are posers!  :abbath:  great band!.

Aye, a real "do I take the Porsche or Ferrari this weekend" conundrum when firing either of them on.

Paradise Lost - Obsidian
Sepultura - Quadra
