Spectral Wound - 8.5/10
The Canadians do a masterful job evoking early 90's Black Metal and bands like Darkthrone ,Dark Funeral, and Setherial. As far as Black Metal goes this is as pure as the driven snow, the occasional jarring upbeat melody aside. Can't remember why the new one didn't grab me but I'll have to go back to it.

Sovereign - Altered Realities 8.5/10
One of last year's best, the Swede's debut channelled Death, Pestilence, Atheist and Sadus to great effect. Looking forward to more.

Katatonia - Sounds Of Decay 8/10
The very worthy addendum to Brave Murder Day and the last time we would hear Mikael Akerfeldt with the band.More and more shoes were about to be gazed at..

Pissgrave - Worthless Malignancy 8/10
New Pissgrave in the Metal Cave this week causing much concern and troubled looks from passers-by. Still not big on these strangled duck type vocals but this final part of the trilogy is probably the pick of them with the riffs and songwriting  definitely moving up a notch here.

Sacred Steel- Ritual Supremacy 7.5/10
Always had a soft spot for these boys, the small fish in the big pond of German Heavy Metal and Thrash.
Album number ten now is business as usual but the band sound fresh and energetic, delivering another batch of classic Metal tracks ensured to keep my spot soft.

Chemicide - Violence Prevails 6/10
Costa Rica's Chemicide have been on my radar for a while and I picked up this new one despite the garish pink and green neons vomited all over the cover. We're talking hi-octane thrash in the vein of Kreator, Death Angel and Metallica ,not jaw dropping but certainly worth a Thrasher's time. A few more hooks (in mouth) are needed in some tracks here to really push this from an Above Average 6 to a Good 7.

Lucifer's Child - The Order
Nile - Black Seeds of Vengeance
Nightsteel - Nightsteel
Candlemass - Black Star EP (the two covers are decent, and quite like the title track as well.  Definitely worth a listen, not sure it is worth buying though).
Christian Mistress - Children of the Earth

Trouble - Psalm 9, bit late to the party, actually got turned on to it by listening to LID
Play the Academy July 13th

ON CD

Metallica- AJFA
Darkthrone - Astral Fortress, daft lyrics, great tunes

Abhorration - Demonolatry
Marduk - Rom 5:12
Tiamat - The Astral Sleep

In Flames(before they became crap)

Reroute to Remain was such a let down, that is when they turned crap for me.

Nite - Cult of the Serpent Sun
Messa - The Spin
Isengard - Hostmorke
Drudkh - Shadow Play

Ossuary - "Abhorrent Worship". Suitably filthy so far.

It started with Clayman for me, although it had a couple of decent tunes.

In the Woods - Heart of the Ages

In Flames were always shite, lads, fuck sake.

Peral Jam - Ten, Vs

New Sargeist has sneaked out, one listen on YouTube but it's a mandatory purchase for me. They really do fit more quality riffs into one song than a lot of BM bands manage on an album.
