Back to the new Chat Pile now. Honestly haven't had this much mileage from anything in years. Just can't get sick of it at all. Thinking Nirvana and NIN level of mileage here

I think Countdown comes under fire because it comes off the back of what a lot of people would consider one of the best metal albums ever recorded, and is an obvious shift towards a more commercial sound. And Mustaine's singing "ability" isn't exactly conducive to that.

But as noted, it's still a decent album from a very capable band, just lacking the epoch-defining kick to the balls of its immediate predecessor.

I always hated Mustaine's voice and I think it's why I never liked Megadeth over the years but when I listened to that album yesterday it didn't bother me at all for the first time ever. Must try another album or 2 and see if it clicks

Blue Öyster Cult - Secret Treaties
Candlemass - Tales of Creation
The Mars Volta - Frances the Mute

Steel Prophet: Dark Hallucinations (CD) 1999

Quality HM/PM from the U.S.

Nice. I have a few Steel Prophet on the shelves I must hoke out soon.
Wearing jeans and leather, not crackerjack clothes

I think I have a couple of Steel Prophet albums on CD somewhere as well.  They were a decent band.  Must check to see if I still have them.

Spectural Wound - Songs of Blood and Mire
Asomvel - Knuckle Duster
Benediction - Ravage of Empires
Drudkh - Shadow Play
Messa - The Spin

Chat Pile - God's Country
Chat Pile - Cool World

This is great stuff. I ignored these lads as I thought they'd be a zero sugar version of noise rock. Gave them a spin after seeing astfgyl raving about them. Very fucking intense. They remind me of the AmRep bands I used to love in my 20's.

Make sure to give the the two debut EPs ("This Dungeon Earth", "Remove Your Skin Please") a go. I like the albums, but enjoy these more.

Possessed - Seven Churches 9/10
Putting the Satan into Thrash Metal in the mid -eighties and effectively creating Death Metal, Possessed's demonic debut still remains a touchstone of blitzkrieg savagery over forty years later. Maybe just Twisted Minds and Holy Hell keep it from getting full marks here.

Destroyer 666 - Wildfire 8.5/10
Invoked the thunder from down under this week, bringing down an avalanche of killer riffs, feral vocals and headbanging mayhem upon myself and anyone within a five mile radius. Well, out to the footpath anyway.

Drudkh - Shadowplay 8/10
Brand new from the nothing if not resilient Ukranians and after a frustratingly drawn out intro piece (nigh on 8mins) this finally ignites into those familiar earthy riffs and hypnotically Burzumesque chord progressions that the band excel at. Echoes of Autumn Aurora to be found throughout this one, it flows, it's coherent, organic and one of the year's better releases so far.

Critical Defiance - The Search Won't Fall 8/10
A favourite from last year getting it's turn on the table in '25, the Chileans hurtle through this rabid thrash at breakneck speed that evokes the likes of Pleasure To Kill and Beneath The Remains.

Sumerlands - Sumerlands 8/10
Debut from Sumerlands back in 2016 showcasing their classy take on 80's Heavy Metal tinged with some old school melodic Doom. At just 32 mins this has serious replay value and I still prefer it to the follow up.

Cancer - Shadow Gripped 6/10
Terrible bargain basement Behemoth cover art on this one but a servicable enough comeback effort from the perennial second tier Death Metallers. New one out this month.
Wearing jeans and leather, not crackerjack clothes

Vital Remains-Dechristianize , what a fucking album!

Black Sabbath - Forbidden
Solstafir - Hin Helga Kvol
Lucifer's Hammer - Time of Death
Lord Vicar - Fear No Pain
Raven Black Night - Barbarian Winter
Witchfynde - Give Em Hell

Slayer: Reign In Blood, South Of Heaven, Seasons In The Abyss

Had the title track of SITA in my head going about town all morning.

Blood Incantation - Absolute Elsewhere

Behemoth - I Loved You at Your Darkest

It's very bland

Occult Burial - Burning Eerie Lore

Firmament - We Don't Rise, We Just Fall
The Halo Effect - March of the Unheard
Demon Spell - Evil Nights
Wolfsbane - Live Faster....
Raven - Can't Take Away The Fire
Vitriolic - Black Steel Vengeance
Rush - Fly By Night
