Death - "Spiritual Healing". When your least favourite album in a seven-album-deep discography is still a 10/10 release  :abbath:

Quote from: astfgyl on April 12, 2025, 04:24:49 PMPicked up Countdown To Extinction in the charity shop for a quid today. Never listened to it at all but it's actually decent, have it on here now in the car.

I hear fun things about the remasters of megadeth but this cd is from 92 so I think I'm safe

Great album. My only complaint is the production is a bit thin in places but the songs are mostly great. It gets a lot of unfair stick.

Yeah it isn't their best, but miles from being their worst. Agree entirely re; thin production.

I'm definitely team babies hanging from the washing line when it comes to those two albums. Maybe as I age I'll switch to team scrawny old man.

Seriously though, Youthanasia is class. Just thrown it on here and already rockin' out  :abbath:

Edit: Apart from A Tout Le Monde, that is. Just remembered it exists there.

I didn't even know it got stick but I enjoyed it

I'm the same. The opening riff to "The Killing Road" is one of their all-time best  :-*  :-*  :-*

Edit - I actually like A Tout Le Monde. Basically MegaDave's "Unforgiven".

See also - one of the scant few Hugh Syme sleeves I actually like (due to the colouration more than anything, mind).

Possession - 1585-1646

Bolzer - Roman Acupuncture

Quote from: astfgyl on April 12, 2025, 05:24:42 PMYeah that megadeth was actually surprisingly decent. I didn't expect to like it.

Back to the new Chat Pile now. Honestly haven't had this much mileage from anything in years. Just can't get sick of it at all. Thinking Nirvana and NIN level of mileage here

I think Countdown comes under fire because it comes off the back of what a lot of people would consider one of the best metal albums ever recorded, and is an obvious shift towards a more commercial sound. And Mustaine's singing "ability" isn't exactly conducive to that.

But as noted, it's still a decent album from a very capable band, just lacking the epoch-defining kick to the balls of its immediate predecessor.

Their best release. "Zeus - Seducer of Hearts" is one for the metal canon  :abbath:

If always liked Mustaine's voice. He has an ear for melody and a nice snarl. No complaints. His voice is unique and works brilliantly with the music.

Yeah honestly he's not talented as a vocalist in the traditional sense, but I could listen to (good) Megadeth all day and not blink at his voice.

Compare and contrast with say Sean Killian in Vio-Lence, and Paul Baloff with Exodus on "Bonded By Blood". Despite the music being banger, the vocals are total ear-rot that you couldn't pay me to sit through.

Countdown is way harder to get through than Youthanasia. I've finally given up at Captive Honor, torn between boredom and cringe.

I'd say hit the "skip" button as "Ashes In Your Mouth" is one of the better songs on it  :abbath:

Faith No More - The Real Thing
Slayer - Show No Mercy
Necrophobic - Darkside
Agent Steel - Unstoppable Force

Opeth - Still Life. I go for this album over anything else in their back catalogue in recent years.
