The First Battle of Moytura :abbath:

Been properly getting into Pentagram, inspired as many are atm I'm sure by that clip of him doing the rounds on the internet.

Loving the straight up, stoner-y doom grooves. They're one of those bands that just scratch a specific itch.

Pantera: Cowboys From Hell

Entombed -Left Hand Path 10/10
Accolades galore for this masterpiece of course, best DM album? Best artwork? Best band photo? Best song(Take your pick)? But what about that bizarre choice of back cover/inlay art, something Earache had left over from Symphonies Of Sickness?

Atomkraft - Conductors Of Noize 8/10
While I've always hated the use of Z in Noize there's no doubting this is a pretty kick ass EP from the Brits who provided Venom with Tony Dolan. Bit of an early Testament buzz of these six tracks which is totally at odds with the NWOBHM tag they usually get lumped in with.

Evile - Hell Unleashed 8/10
Good album this, definitely their hardest hitting.I remember an interview with Ol at the time saying how chuffed he was with having Michael Whelan (Arise, Cause Of Death) on cover art duties. Fair enough Ol but this looks like a rough sketch he might have come up with on the bog.

C.O.C.- In The Arms Of God 7/10
Good mixture of everything Pepper and the boys do well here, the sludge, the psychedelia, the hardcore, the crossover, the bad ass Sabbathian groove and the title track in particular is a banger. That's always a big plus with me.

Crypta - The Echoes Of The Soul 7/10
Impressive debut for the Brazilian girls who clearly like a bit of Destruction, plenty of riffs ,solos, songs that stick in your head and a good standard maintained throughout. A bit darker and deathlier than their cohorts in Nervosa too.

Ereb Altor - Halsingemorker 6/10
An album I thought would be a big one for me this year and I've had quite a few listens to it but it's not really there for me. One of those albums with a cracking first track then it settles into a more meandering affair until picking up again towards the end. More time will be spent with it but I'll leave the jury out with a solid but unspectacular 6 for now.
Wearing jeans and leather, not crackerjack clothes

Have a similar opinion of the new Ereb Altor but again I'll give it plenty more listens over the next few weeks.

Devil - To the Gallows
Gorgoroth - Quantos Possunt Ad Satanitatem Trahunt
Hypocrisy - The Fourth Dimension
The Obsessed - Gilded Sorrow
Ereb Altor - Halsingemorker

Quote from: Eoin McLove on March 16, 2025, 10:56:16 AMI listened to the first song on the Nite album and I can see why it's popular. Nice guitar playing that reminds me of your man from Megadeth with the lovely hair whose name has momentarily jumped out of my brain. Overall though, the song sounds too happy and nice. The riffs are like a fun thing to jam but they have no weight, power or presence. Despite the tasty playing it is a bit flimsy, like an even more female Tribulation.

To cleanse the palette...

Been a while since I threw on Blackwater Park but it's one serious album. I'd put Deliverance on the same level but that's probably a time and place thingy

Was sent the new Teitanblood last week. Savage stuff. Better flow than TBC and more in common with the first 2 but with the solos of TBC.
