Got into a conversation earlier with my cousin (who's not hugely into rock music bar stuff that I inflicted upon him when we were teens like early Offspring and Metallica) earlier about Funkadelic's "Maggot Brain" and thought to myself if he digs that (particularly the title track), he might dig Hendrix... so I stuck on the three JHE albums for the first time in about a decade. Fuck me I forgot how good this shit is.

Also bumped into an old music dork buddy of mine earlier today for the first time in a long time. He recommended me Wayfarer, so been checking them out (in turn I recommended him Tribulation - which he enjoyed - and Suffering Hour).

As in the Wild West 'Black Metal' Wayfarer? that's pretty out there recommendation wise

Yep! Particularly as he's not even that into metal.

I mentioned the new Blood Incantation as he's into prog in a big way (he's also not adverse to death-ish metal - the same lad threw me a bit of Opeth back in the Blackwater Park days when I was a piss-broke at college). He's in on BI, and recommended Wayfarer as they're also from Colorado (and after a quick perusal of MI, turns out Isaac from BI is also Wayfarer's drummer).

Oh, didn't know they had the same drummer. Still, fair play for the Wayfarer shout

SVRM newest ep whatever its called....serious consistency last few years from this crowd

I put on that Tribulation new video earlier and all I could think about was Paradise Lost - One Second. It's just one song fair enough but that was the immediate impression.

I actually really like that PL album so it's not a criticism, just an observation.

Otherwise, I listened to the Chat Pile album again. I just can't seem to get sick of it. It's growing and growing on me. There's a groove to it that I haven't been getting anywhere else.

Would you believe I've never listened to that Screaming Trees album. Is it as good as the reputation would suggest?

It's good, but they peak at Uncle Anesthesia and Sweet Oblivion for me. It's grown up Screaming Trees, well worth a listen but missing a little of the earlier spirit of adventure, if that makes any sense.

I remember it being lauded as the album of the year back in the 90s when it came out but that was pre Internet and nobody I knew had the cd so it just passed me by altogether.

I do remember an interview where Mark Lanegan said that the more fags he smoked the better his voice got and I thought he was an absolute hero

It's well worth 45 minutes of your time, man. For me, they did better before but there are some bangers on there and Chris Goss is on it too, so all good.

Lanegan was a fucking heroin ghost at this stage. They did a couple of songs on Later, the Jools Holland thing, and he looks whiter than milk. Nothing to do with the oul cancer sticks
