Got halfway through the Tribulation album and could feel my will to live dwindling.

Given its the 40th birthday, it's been "Morbid Tales" for me all morning. Still an absolute mammoth.

The random six have been all over the place stylistically this week and when that happens usually some Old School Death Metal will top the tree.

Intronaut - The Direction Of Last Things 7.5/10
Initially picked this up because I liked the cover art but it's very decent prog/sludge/post rock ala Tool, A Perfect Circle, early Cynic.

Bunker 66 - Beyond The Help Of Prayers 7/10
Pissed off black thrash from Italy out on Dying Victims since '21.

Morbid Evils - In Hate With The Burning World 6/10
Utterly draining, joyless filth from the Finns, like Godflesh playing thick black sludge.

Tjolgtar - The Tjolgtarian Mass 4/10
Super lo-fi one man Black Metal, one of those albums that I've no idea why, where or how came into my collection

Ildjarn - Seven Harmonies Of Unknown Truths 2/10
Early Ildjarn demo featuring Samoth on vocals, originally sold exclusively in Helvete. These two selling points can be the only reason why this got a vinyl treatment from Eisenwald. Completists only indeed.

I don't think I could do it but I appreciate reading your rating system reviews. :abbath:

Cheers man, I'm a bit OCD when it comes to ranking stuff in my head , not to be taken too seriously, I'm not a musician or anything, just based on what an album does for me at any given time. I might love that Ildjarn next week. Actually, no.

Have you ever read the 0% review some lad on MA gave it?

Wow, see you need a bit of context here, like what kind of stuff does he usually listen too. If he's into War Metal then of course Intronaut are going to sound like 'milquetoast'. 0/10 though...

Agatus- Dawn of Martyrdom. My LP arrived yesterday and I'm giving it its maiden voyage. I think Agatus progressed into something more unique and interesting with the album after this, but it's enjoyable for what it is. The LP edition looks good.

Tribulation - Svb Rosa In Aeternvm (am pleased to report I had no suicidal tendencies during said listening).
Obituary - Slowly We Rot (Live & Rotting)
Lake of Tears - Headstones (always loved this band)

We're all losing goth tr00 points by declaring our love for it! Def end of year lister for me though.

I haven't heard that demo, but I do enjoy the bould Ildjarn's harsh as fuck black metal. There's magic there if you can get past the shocking production!

The 2 EP's he released with Nidhogg, Norse and Svartfråd, are very good, and mercifully short if you can't stomach his full-lengths.

Funnily enough with all this Ildjarn talk, on my way up to the storage space a bnunch of my vinyl is in and I'd pulled two Ildjarn lps to bring home for a spin last time I was up there that' I'm gonna grab now. I genuinely forgot I had them. So don
't be surrised if they turn up in the "For Sale" section here in the next few days  ;D

Continuing the wonky gothy black metal buzz of late, and woke up annoyingly early on my day off, so today so far:
Starcave "Sukta"
Regere Sinister "Inside the Eye of Horned Winds"
Funerealm Gloom "Catachonium Mysteries"
Samael "Blood Ritual"

Also bits of Mighty Sphincter and Christian Death (Rozz stuff)

The hordes of Ildjarn fanatics will be watching the Classifieds section with bated breath.  ::)

Off to Discogs I go

Different buzz currently: Chimers "through today"

Not getting the buzz around the new Tribulation either, had a listen the other night and found it a bit of a slog tbh.
