That's some nominative determinism-esque fun right there for sure

Quote from: Ducky on February 28, 2024, 02:13:57 PMWith all the chat about it in the other thread, I realised I haven't listened to South of Heaven in ages, so stuck that on.

Forgot how good it is. I like how they didn't make RiB Part 2. And Lombardo is on fire on this. Those fills on Behind the Crooked Cross are fucking tasty.

I had it on the other day and yeah, I had very similar thoughts about it. Lombardo has such a brilliant style. It's minimal in a way but embellished with ferocious fills. And the drum production is so clear and powerful. Compare it to the tinny typewriter production that has been en vogue for twenty years and it blows it out of the water for power, while retaining Crystal clarity.

He's happy to play the most basic shit if it fits the part of the song, but also happy to unleash some nifty playing. I think that dynamic adds to the songs as well, as he'll throw curveballs at your ears.

Bostaph is a great drummer, but he never quite matched Lombardo's feel for the music.

I've since had SoH on the earbuds, the headphones, and the hi-fi and yeah, the drums sound immense on it. Itching to give it another whirl now.

Is there anything as well produced as the last five seconds of Spill The Blood? I don't believe so. They got it spot on on that album, never came close before or after.

Morta Skuld - Creation Undone
Devastator - Conjurers if Cruelty
Sentenced - Shadows of the Past
Megaton Sword - Blood Hails Steel
Cirith Ungol - Dark Parade

Negura Bunget - From Transilvanian Forest. I'm going to work my way through their discography, it's been a while since I listened to them.

Suffocation - Despise The Sun
Morbid Angel - Kingdoms Disdained
Psychic Ills - Dins

Faith No More - first four albums
Judas Priest - Point of Entry, Screaming for Vengeance

A successful day

Primordial - Redemption at the Puritan's Hand
Primordial - Where Greater Men Have Fallen
Primordial - Exile Amongst the Ruins

On a Primordial buzz recently having never properly listened to anything after To the Nameless Dead. I'm really enjoying these albums, even Redemption which is supposedly their poorest release.

Unwound - Leaves Turn Inside You
Paul Chain - Detaching from Satan
Death SS - Evil metal
Nightosphere - Katabasis (the name and album title might sound like a black metal band, it's actually Red House Painters /Bee and Flower type slowcore)
Ch'ahom - Knots of Abhorrence. Bit of a gem this. Nothing groundbreaking but just really fucking good.

Ch'ahom are great. The one track EP from last year, Ts'ono'ot, is great as well.

The music is great. The fact that band name and that song title sound like things Scatman John might have come out with is a bonus.

Ordered a copy of the lp there. Jesus, even postage from Europe is fucking ridiculous nowadays.
