Funnily enough he was the exact same for me, the Man Utd of wrestlers. I always wanted Warrior or Macho to win. Later on I always wanted Bret Hart to lose and Shawn Michaels to win for the same reasons.

Latterly grew to love Hulk and Hulkamania in my later years more as a nostalgia thing for just how big of a cultural event that was. Then he went full MAGA and he was harder to like...

RIP all the same though. He was as famous as anyone in the 80s, a true cultural icon. 71 is very young, but I guess old enough for a wrestler.

Hogan was always my favourite, along with the Big Boss Man and Tugboat when I got into it in the late 80s/early 90s.

He was a racist creep

Yeah a horrible cunt by pretty much all accounts, but a classic character.

The Hulkster was an icon , take it or leave it. R.I.P.

Also, Malcolm Jamal Warner who played Theo Huxtable in the Cosby Show passed this week too  .

Ozzy, Theo, Hogan all gone in a week. Am hoping someone is checking on Mr T.

Does anyone know if Johnny 5 is still alive?

Like others I liked Hulk in the WWF but always preferred the Warrior. Hollywood Hogan was best part of his career. As I am sure anyone who witnessed it as it happened will agree it was crazy as a kid seeing Hulk Hogan do the unthinkable and turn heel in WCW. Air guitaring the belt coming out to Voodoo Child with the black stubble around the trademark handlebar moustache. Then on top of that the NWO and all that came with it.

It makes me sad now thinking back to all of that watching Nitro on TNT as a child and being pissed off cause we didn't have sky sports at the time so the only WWF I got to see was Livewire and Shotgun Saturday Night on Sky 1. Knowing now that at the time Nitro was the far better show. I also remember the Hogan vs the Rock match at Wrestlemania in the early 00's being one of the best wrestling matches I have ever seen. Everyone talking about it in school the next day.

Back in the 80's Hogan was like Big Daddy, he was rolled out every now and then to great fanfare, but I found wrestlers like Mr Perfect, Bret Hart etc were far more interesting as they were far better athletes and more technical, having said all the The Ultimate Warrior was fkn mental and had no real skills at all but was great to watch. But yeah Hogan was a huge draw back in the day. Honky Tonk man was great as well, some great gimmmicks back in the day. I stopped watching wrestling around 1992 so I can't really comment on what happened after that really.

And lets not forget Bobby Heenan, a total heel but behind it all a stand up guy apparently!

I never disliked Bret Hart but never liked him either he reminds me of what the wrestlers seem to be today generic, boring and have no personality. Mr Perfect to me was always one of the bad guys. One of my mates in Canada bumped into Bret a few years ago in a pub in Toronto and said he was really nice.

Over the last few years I watched some old wrestling here and there. I saw one episode of prime time that had Honkey Tonk in it. He beat some jobber within a few mins. The jobber had to be carried from the ring back to locker room as Honkey Tonks finishing move apparently left him unable to stand, Honkey kept running in front him as the refs carried him back doing his Elvis dance. I couldn't stop laughing it was so funny.

Yes Bobby Heenan is one of the funniest people to have ever lived. Another really funny wrestler that I hated as a kid but can appreciate as an adult is the Million Dollar Man.

Yeah I hated million dollar man as well but just goes to show you how well they sold it! Especially now when you see youtube interviews with those older guys and how 'mellow' they are in real life compared to the characters they portrayed. Sensational Sherri was a complete bitch on TV but a sweetheart in real life apparently, another RIP

Sorry I wont derail the thread any longer with wrestling stuff  :abbath:

See I would have agreed with this until they put all the archived stuff on Netflix and now when I go back, the slower cartoon character guys of the 80s were way more entertaining that the 90s era of Bret Hart et al. That era is mind-numbingly boring to watch now (bar Bret himself and Shawn Michaels). There are few wrestlers that worked the crowd like Hogan and probably only Stone Cold got similar crowd reactions when his music hit.
