This is cracking stuff. But since it's a discussion forum, does anyone else find the vocal mix a bit dry? Not a harsh criticism or anything, just something I notice with a good few mixes these days. In fact it's being compared to Enslaved (and I can see why with the decent tune) and Enslaved themselves are one of the worst for the pure dry vocals. Dead Cross was the same and that is Mike Patton so nothing to do with the actual quality of the music, just that dry vocal mix isn't my favourite.
I'm all for it. A bit of roughness around the edges is a good thing. It keeps recordings alive, I think.

Abhainn (river) is a concept album about water and specifically the rivers of Ireland. Each of the tracks from Abhainn has been given the title of a river in Ireland. Themes from the folklore and mythology attached to each river can be seen in the lyrics. The musical course of the album also follows that of a river. From the initial trickling spring, to the river growing in speed and weight as the body of water grows, to the final torrent that flows to the sea in peace.

I got a message from the label last week to say CD production wasn't ready yet due to Covid affecting the pressing plant. No update yet but looking forward to having access to my bandcamp purchase from tomorrow anyway 😀

We haven't put an exact date on it yet as we also need to get the CDs!
It will be mid May anyway Andy I'd say before we have them in the digifiles and ready to go.

Haven't had an Irish release that turned my head as much in many years. Sounds really really good. Were these lads in other bands beforehand? Loads of Enslaved in there as said before but its own thing. Some proper guitar playing, even Metallicaesque bits. The standard BM vocal is probably the only thing that slightly disappoints, though enough variety to get over it. The way they have 2 vocals playing off eachother to give a feeling of flowing water/river-esque sounds is very very cool. Will pick it up at least on Bandcamp.
Tried to buy this the other day but it wouldn't go through for some reason. I'll give it another go. What I've heard of it sounds class.

We had been in different things in the past, but CM is our first proper band. Started up seriously around 2008.
Like John says, some of us are also in Grief and PoS, and we've been in For Ruin, Soothsayer, Katatonik and various other bands over the years :)

The original run of Dair digipaks are long gone.
We had considered getting another run done, but have focused on the new album for now.

A digifile is just a digipak without the plastic interior bit that holds the CD. It's like the Horizon's Fall CD we released for The Grief?
Hadn't heard the word before we printed the Grief CDs!
So it is a physical edition with a nice 6 panel case that can take a lot of artwork. The CD and booklet fit inside that then.
We will be doing that part ourselves, just waiting on the CDs and booklets from Russia.
Aha! I thought it was an online version so I was confused as to how that might affect or hold up the physical edition. Grand job. I'll grab one of those when they are in 8)

You left out the part where he's looking for loans of €100 to €500 that he'll definitely pay back by Xmas! The message leaves so many unanswered questions, it's mental to say the least. I see they have 16,000 new CD's since June (plus existing stock?), and they just have the covers now. That's some debt to be taking on as the presales would be a piss in the ocean surely. But it's a colleague in the normal dayjob that somehow had all his money for some reason??
Anyway I was thinking back in May that it was strange that they were giving thousands of codes away (and still were up to yesterday), like a last hurrah before going bust. They overcompensated for delays that most people can surely understand. Now it seems they were buttering people up to come back for something later, but the bands don't benefit? Not sure what bands would make of 200 free codes being dished out for each release, especially when they would have plans for selling their own copies.
I was also thinking there were far too many releases coming out. Was it 23 releases in April?? Would Nuclear Blast even do that many?? It was 30 releases in the first half of the year anyway.
I hope it works out well somehow. The CM CD's are to hand at least...

Seems to be so for the moment. I took the photo of the CD's from the Twitter video showing the 16,000 CD's just delivered last month. A few people have bought the Satanath discography since so maybe some stamps have been purchased this weekend 🤷🏼

Got a reply from them there saying the emails were genuine, but that they have sorted the issue cash wise.
They have a post on Instagram now showing that the booklets have arrived. So this may be sorted soon after all.

He's probably treading water with the whole operation by the looks of it. Thousands of CD's are a big upfront cost and will take a while to shift in this day and age. Fingers crossed for him.

Listened to this in full on Spotify yesterday for the first time in months and I found lots of new aspects to it that I missed on first listen.
This album is a great antidote to all the Heavy metal and Death metal coming out now that's starting to sound extremely similar. Class and unique album.
It's certainly unique, yeah. You can pick out influences but they are well on their own distinct path.

It took a week's vacation in Ireland it seems, arrived today 😀 Beautiful booklet, seems a waste in CD size though, would make an amazing LP package. CD print on the edge of the reverse side is a nice touch as well. 👏🏻

CD dropped this morning, nice it is too. The album's fantastic, it's been on a near loop the last week.
Yeah, I got mine this morning too, have her playing away here, Its fucking lovely stuff. great artwork too.
It's in my CD player in the car since I got it last year, great album. Just the right mix of melody and harshness. Probably best Irish release since Formless or AOP'S last. Atheos 2nd was good also last year.

I'm guessing you have the wrong thread but that's a great doc, yeah. Picked up the DVD when it came out, some nice bonus stuff on it.
Finally giving this beaut its first run on the stereo. I've listened to it online quite a few times over the past year but hearing it balanced properly and with the full expression of the production coming through is a treat. I think the lads have always had a unique sound and Abhainn, if anything, sounds more Corr Mhóna-ish than ever before. I think the concept is great and the lyrics are an interesting and thought provoking read. The artwork is wonderful as well. Such a great and fitting choice. Nothing about this band is designed to slot neatly into any particular subgenre or to meet some external expectation; it creates its own little world. A serious album.
Edit. On my second spin now and I'm going to throw out a curve curve ball suggestion. Can I detect a little nod to Naervaer in the opening song?
I'm standing in on drums for a gig and had to sit down and learn the album, quickly became one of my favourite metal albums in recent memory. It's fantastic IMO. So catchy and great production

Naervaer are definitely a cool band if there is a nod its an unconscious one, but then we are rarely conscious!!

Yep it's very very good. Can't fault it much at all. I hear a good bit of Enslaved too. But it's still very much it's own in a lot of ways.
