Ozzy and Priest, 3 Arena, Wednesday January 30th.
Not long to go til this now. Tickets finally came yesterday. Looking forward to Priest big time, new album should sound great live.
Ozzy I'm hoping is in good nick but I guess it's a bit of a lottery really. He was surprisingly good with Sabbath in 3 Arena so hopefully he's still got it.
Looking for a standing ticket for this if anyone knows of one going

I got my tickets a few weeks back as well, more looking forward to priest, Ozzy only has a few songs that I like (Mr Crowley, Crazy Train etc..) unless he plays some Sabbath stuff.

Curfew in the 3 arena is 11pm. Artists have to pay 25,000 euro if they over this time.

Ozzfest without Ozzy was just dandy, Tool headlining suited me just fine.
That's a shame, I was looking forward to getting to see Priest. Hope they'll still be playing support for the rescheduled gig. If not, I wouldn't have much interest in going.

Happened to a few of us when the Nile/ Behemoth tour was hitting Dublin years back,they couldn't travel over on the ferry,crossing was to rough.Ended up out in Dublin midweek on the absolute batter,better than any gig!

That's odd. I Emailed them this morning and within half an hour I got a reply saying
"Thank you for your email.
Good news! We have cancelled your booking now. These tickets are now void.
The refund will take 5-7 working days to appear back on the card used to make the purchase. "

Priest couldn't do those size of stadiums themselves, but they need to do some sort of tour before Rob isn't able to do it anymore, and while their latest album is still popular.

Any rescheduled dates are surely going to have fuck all ticket sales because who the fuck would risk throwing out more money for tickets, accommodation and arrange time off if necessary when there's a huge doubt over the shows ever happening which in turn will probably lead to another string of cancellations. I contacted them and told them I was in a different country with no guarantee of being able to get into the country and they refunded me straight away, no fuss at all. The other was via Ticketmaster for a gig in Amsterdam. It was postponed with no rescheduled date. After 6 months and still no rescheduled date, it was finally cancelled a few weeks ago. I have had to go through the Ticketmaster refund process and, as of now, have yet to receive my refund from them. As always, Ticketmaster appear to be least interested in any form of customer service. I think I will just skip anything through Ticketmaster in the future, when there are gigs. They're such a shitty business and I'm fed up sustaining their shit, albeit in a very miniscule way, with my cash.

The lads who run ticketing for Desertfest Berlin/Keep It Low Munich are dead on. Never had a problem with them. Once I even missed the early bird ticket sale, chanced my arm and emailed them - they sold me three tickets at the discount price.
Ticketmaster are cunts. Ditto Viagogo/StubHub - I had tickets to go see an ice hockey game in New York in March. I was in NYC as the shit hit the fan, the match was postponed and I had to get the fuck out of there anyway. I got an email for StubHub saying that the match would be rescheduled so I wasn't entitled to a refund.
Then another mail saying the game would not be rescheduled and therefore I would be issued a StubHub credit (minus admin fees of $29) to be used in the currency of the country that the event would be held in - i.e the US - to be used within 6 months (optimistic).
I badgered them on Twitter and by email until I got through to someone who saw sense and agreed to a refund but not before I proved that I was in the US at the time of the cancelled event. I got an email saying "Your request could take up to 120 days to process".
I swear to Yahweh - on the 120th day from the acknowledgment of the refund my credit card showed the $300 back.

Ozzy will be sitting backstage for most of the show with Bill who, let's not forget, couldn't hold a tune together 13 years ago, according to the band themselves. It's going to be Iommi, Butler, Bordin and a succession of guest singers for the most part, before the two lads are wheeled on at the end for a cameo appearance.
Ozzy is wheelchair bound and wasn't even able to join Tony for the press video. He'll do 2 songs max with each outfit (Paranoid and Black Sabbath and perhaps Crazy Train and Mr. Crowley) and the rest will be the guest slots.
People in general lap this shit up nowadays with guest bands almost like fantasy football although it probably was conceived as far back as the Freddy Mercury Tribute, seeing bands playing other bands material and mixing up singers. All you have to do is look at the amount of content online of "if Hetfield sang in Sabbath" or what an Alice in Chains song in the style of Type O Negative would be like. People don't give a fuck about the bands per se as much as the spectacle of the event.
The dynamic pricing is the other sign of that since people buy completely into the hype that they're missing out and won't give a thought to parting with 400 quid per ticket. It's the natural commercial peak of how nostalgia has been marketed.
As a side note, I'd love to have seen the tantrum Mustaine threw when he found out Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax were all on the bill and he wasn't :laugh:

I thought it might be a gig/festival sorta hybrid thing too, granted dunno how you'd work that in a venue like VP, but an all-day concert like that would seem very wooden to me. I paid less for a weekend ticket for Hellfest 2014 - not a lifetime ago - where Sabbath headlined one of the nights, than the cheapest ticket there.

I have my ozzfest 98 ticket for Milton Keynes, £27.50 headlined by Sabbath (Vinnie appice drumming as Bill ward took a heart attack), a 45 minute Ozzy solo set beforehand and sets from Slayer, Pantera, Fear Factor, Therapy? Foo Fighters and Soundly.
Didn't have to sell organs to get there. Think Virgin megastore did a bus from Belfast/ferry/hotel/ticket offer for 149.

Was around 9000th in the queue this morning. Managed to get 2 seating tickets near the side of the stage for €422 total, but only after about 2 hours of refreshing the map and trying to grab anything affordable!

I have a tape of one of the nights somewhere. Party With the Animals was the only new tune on it, nothing from No Rest, Just Shot in the Dark from Ultimate Sin, Mike Inez's first gigs with Ozzy. I saw Sabbath at Hellfest a few months before the Dublin gig. The Dublin gig was good but they were lethal at Hellfest. Sound was killer at that gig. Zero interest in this gig as I've seen everyone at it countless times and you'd get to a fest cheaper than this 1 dayer.
Same. Have seen Ozzy, Sabbath with Ozzy, and Heaven & Hell. All great performances, Sabbath on the God Is Dead tour especially. If anything Ozzy was on better form at that than when I saw him 10 years earlier with Zakk & Co. Doubt if that trend will continue for this though haha

After Sonisphere 2010 I was at my hotel having a drink with one of the tour managers of one of the bands who played lower down the bill. He had in the past had worked with her and found her to be a bitch.

Ozzy shook as hell. Managed OK given the circumstances, Bill Ward however probably should have just done one song. Probably would have been better to mix in some of the supergroup stuff with the Sabbath set. I hope Nuno Bettencourt gets a few bob for the shift he put in during them bits.

Nuno is a consummate professional, he put in the longest shift all day and it was pitch perfect. Fair play to him. Pity the sound was horrific for Jake E Lee and he got lumped with David Draiman who went down like a lead balloon.

Watched the Slayer and Ozzy sets which were good now trying to find the Sabbath one. They should have made it into a 2 or 3 day thing and given the bands proper sets then they could have made it an annual thing going forward. Surley Ozzy could have done a few more songs as other than the not standing he was a lot better than I expected.
Don't be surprised if you see Ozzy soon doing some shows around Europe now that they've figured out he can sit and sing. The supergroups/drum offs can do one (especially that goon from Blink 182), but indeed Nuno killed it, and the big surprises vocally were Lizzy Hale and the Ugly Kid Joe guy. Billy Corgan was the unintentional comic relief. Awful.
Not gonna lie, it was sad see Ozzy the way he is, but he didn't do too badly given his condition. I'd say that's it now, retirement, and tbh Id say he hasnt much time left. I'm glad they got to close the book with the original lineup. Regardless of what you think of their performance last night, they really are the originators of so much. Shame we didn't get them ending with the song Black Sabbath but such is life.

Not that he needs too but he seems fit and able to go on a bit more..

Whitfield Crane was great, Billy Corgan definitely was not. Steven Tylers slot also came across very well in person aswell.

It was pretty sad in person too but to be honest the whole weekend was a nice celebration. The city was buzzing, Sabbath was everywhere and a lot of metal celebrities could be found wandering round the city. We met Gary Holt, Kerry King (inc. very serious security man), Paul Bostaph & Johan Hegg.

Watched Guns N' Roses and Metallica sets which I enjoyed. Saw a lot of people complaining about Axls Sabbath Bloody Sabbath cover. It seemed fine to me. Still haven't seen the Sabbath set yet.

I'd never even heard of Yungblood before this event. It's between him and Lizzy Hale as to who where the best singers on the day

Was at the event, golden circle - absolutely incredible. Tool, Slayer & Metallica easily top 3 bands of the day. Though I can't get my head around Metallica not doing their Sabbra Cadabra tune in favour of Jonny Blade!
Booing of the Disturbed singer was phenomenal - you could see it shook him a little initially and i was glad to be a part of it (mind blowing he was even there, never mind him being successful)! Missed Rival Sons (who the fuck even are they anyway?) and LoG (not a fan) but mostly caught everything else - save for missing a few songs due to toilet and drink breaks!
Cool to see the supergroups people like Jake E. Lee, Bettencourt, KK Downing jamming with people like the Tool guys, Tom Morello & big hitters like Steven Tyler & Ronnie Wood.
Anthrax may have played ok, but 2 songs?! C'mon - worst value of the day. Zakk Wylde was once again awful for Pantera - really did them no favours, he simply doesn't treat the material with the respect it deserves. I'd never watch Pantera again, pity Down or CoC weren't on the bill instead. Bands like Gojira & Mastodon did far better than Pantera in my opinion. Brann Dailor hung out in the crowd for a good portion of the later show and I also chatted to Blaze Bailey at the very end - lovely dudes, happy to chat.
4th time seeing Sabbath and 2nd time seeing Ozzy (first time for both was at Ozzfest '98 at MK bowl) - performance wise, certainly not their best - but, given the gravity of the event, it was just special (and very emotional for some people, lots of tears etc.) - not from me though, just happy to see Sabbath for one last time!
Watched some highlights from the stream from a torrent yesterday - decent, but cannot do the real thing justice. Vibe/crowd energy was maybe the best at a gig I've ever experienced. No casuals, no mongs, no idiots, no wipeouts - lots of global fans, just there for music. (It was a far cry from the Maiden & Pantera shows this year in Ireland!)
All things considered it was pretty well run - fast change overs, free water (lots of it in the smoking area!), reasonable queues for food/drink/merch given the numbers (from my perspective at the Golden Circle accessible stand drink/food area). Only time it kinda felt bad was trying to get home - not enough trains, taxis or buses - had to walk into the centre of Birmingham to get a taxi.
A 2 day event may have worked and given artists more time, but I think it would have lacked the energy/intensity of the actual day - hard to describe how frantic and fun it was. Bands could only play their best stuff and seemed like they REALLY wanted to be there - made it special.
That's exactly the report I'm glad to have read. Just looking at the back stage stuff, current and past heroes, still like kids. Class. The dates and travel made it a no-go but I'd have paid 500 for that day out no problem.
Yeah man, I took a half day from work and watched the whole stream. It was whopper. Really great vibe and everyone seemed to be having a great time. Would have loved to be at it.
I see it's on the stick now so I might give it a look over the next couple of days. I'm sure it's the Sharon-approved, autotuned, de-booed version but better than nothing.

I agree the stream or videos don't seem to do the atmosphere justice, nor the sound. Metallica sounded pretty good in reality but the recording doesn't sound half as good. I suppose when something is mixed for a certain setting and to come out of a certain system, it can't be mixed again to perfection in a few hours.
Food queues were a shitshow around me, I waited 45/50 minutes only to be told they had run out of food, this was at around 5 o clock!
We walked 20 minutes and then used Bolt to get a taxi but otherwise it was a kip to get out of. Entry was a breeze to be fair, 25 minutes in a taxi from the city and probably around 5 minutes from getting out of the taxi & into our seats just as Mastodon started.
The area around the stadium is ramshackle enough even today never mind 60 years ago when they were growing up there.
I'm glad it was better in person because any clips I've seen looked like my worst fucking nightmare!
I never judge going off live clips, a lot of the time they can be terrible; but great in person.

Just an observation. I've not been to a modern setup like this, looks like metal cardio as opposed to 'moshing' :laugh: , I still have physical marks from stage diving, legs knocked against the stage, elbows in the head etc, different times I guess :laugh: , no hate.

Entombed headlining, Neurosis and Breach supporting. Neurosis were band of the night alright, blew me away completely. The Neurosis/Voivod gig was the following year I think, Today Is The Day opened. I missed them, unfortunately, Voivod were really boring and Neurosis were great, though a bit more polished and had less impact than the previous gig.
Oh yeah, those two gigs have merged in my head. Breach were class and that album they were touring, Venom, made a big impact on me. Today is the Day were the revelation the following year. So fucking deranged.

I got in just as their last chords were ringing out. I was raging, that album they were touring is immense. Voivod were a huge disappointment, boring as fuck. It was the Eric Forrest-led line up, but I actually love Phobos so should have enjoyed it. Can't really remember Breach's set from '97 but I know I enjoyed it.

There's footage online at a Nails gig somewhere and it looks like a mass epileptic seizure. For a deadly band, the calibre or mongo at it would make me think twice about going to see them if what I saw was typical mosh pit carry on.
Regarding the merch, I saw a headline last night that they raised 190 million USD for the charities. A mind blowing sum if true.

The golden circle tickets were £400 each, some lad on here selling seating tickets last week for £500 each - plus streaming (£30 x 5 million viewers), plus merch (£45 a shirt, £50 a poster, £90 a hoodie, £7.5 a chip etc.) - all the bands paying their own way (supposedly). Plus there was a heap of upgrade packages for all sorts - early entry, side of stage, merch packs etc.
Now, how all that money is precisely accounted for who knows (staff, costs, stadium vendors), but I could easily see it doing those numbers and have a few quid spun off here and there for various folks/
costs.
5M paid streams is way higher than I'd have put it at, but I suppose it'd be possible. It's not from the gate and merch anyway, even if the ticket prices were astronomical.
