On a buzz with one of my favourite albums of all time this morning. A good contender for most sublime all-rounder album ever; musically, lyrically, sonically, such incredible depth, so many layers, far too much to take in on any single listening.

Turnstile

Had a listen to the track 'Turnstile Love Connection' , it's about 12 mins long and takes all these twists and turns- mostly punk oriented but goes into other pop directions, thumbs up from me but I don't really know what they normally sound like.

Turnstile's "Move Thru Me" EP is fucking deadly.

Nice one !!
I'm a big Simon and Garfunkel fan but for some reason I never really looked into Simons solo stuff (possibly because I don't think much of him as a man, despite his musical ability being unquestionable), I must remedy that.

I listened to that lately for the first time in years, my feeling was that it had aged badly. I'd be inclined to put that down to how big a deal it was at the time, and the amount of associations with it that dated it.

Great in its day though, iconic even.

To my ears, it's absolutely timeless, in each of its dimensions; lyrically, musically, and sonically. It came out in 1986, but personally, I have a strong association with it from the mid- to late-90s, when I first got into it, but at which point it was already over a decade old. Sounded fresh then, sounds fresh to me now. The production, which is generally what dates something, I find superb.

Flicking through records last Saturday night looking for something and I happened across Pavement's "Brighten The Corners".

Hadn't listened to it in years - possibly due to overdosing on Pavement in my 20s. Still a great album, probably the best Pavement record to introduce someone new to them too.

Lookit, I don't really like the album this is off, so I ain't gonna recommend it, and I don't even really like the album version of this, but, whatever, just listen to this live version 10 times and it'll be the length of an album and probably better than what you were planning on listening to anyway, so just do it:
Lindsey Buckingham, live solo performance of Big Love. Chills down the spine every time. Imagine being at a concert, which up to that point has been, y'know, decent but not amazing, and then this happens...

Ah yeah, that's phenomenal alright. They're lost without him.

Tango In The Night was the first proper album I bought with my own money so I'll always have a soft spot for it, dated though it is.

John Kimble's recommendation of that JF Flynn album is right on the money, superb stuff.

Take heed, he's a cop you idiot!

In my defence ye have similar 'tone' when posting :)

Nice wan all the same, got pure fizzy baws listening to that yesterday.

Ah yeah it's a class album. I've been going back to it frequently since it's release. Caught him live a few weeks ago as well where he played the majority of the album tracks, and himself and the band really manage to capture that same atmosphere of the recorded versions. Well worth seeing.
