Listening to The Pixies a nice bit lately after not listening to them for years.
Mighty stuff.

I don't get on much with the post-reunion stuff, but the first four albums still get regular spins. Mental lyrics too. Plus, my one time mate Tony didn't appreciate having "Tony's Theme" barked at him on nights out

Up there with "spit on me Dicky".
I'd be the same, first four are class.

Hey man, what's this I hear about no more Whiplash? Say it ain't so.

Quote from: ochoill on May 13, 2025, 10:17:53 AMViolator is the best of the lot of these anyway.  Black Celebration also lethal to be fair.

I like Tears for Fears but haven't had an actual album on since my teens, only a best of.  Must go back to Songs today sure.

My only non-metal listening lately is the Final Fantasy VII soundtrack again, interspersed with a few tracks off the Evangelion OST.  They are both often in rotation but the good weather brings them right up the list.

Go listen to Songs. You'll be amazed

Was off work so a bit of Bad Religion and Nofx today while getting some gardening done in the sun

I was actually out for a pint with Barry/Bane when I posted the Black Celebration comment. He had just popped to the jacks, and when he returned I mentioned the discussion, he effectively said "both classic albums, but Black Celebration is better than them", so I showed him the comment I just made and we had a right ol' larf about it

Hey man, what's this I hear about no more Whiplash? Say it ain't so.

One of the boys I went to school with had a wee stint in hospital where he almost died of meningitis. I had taped "Death to The Pixies" off him, so I decided that if the hairy bastard died "Monkey Gone To Heaven" would be his theme tune. Luckily he made a full recovery and we had daytime pints last week.

Yeah Whiplash seems to have crashed out. I've nothing to do with the boyos running the show, but from what I can observe it's a double whammy of rising costs for them to stage it (such is fuckin' everything in 2025), and a lack of any proper venue in town.

Now the Garavogue appear to be hosting Cruachan during the summer (if Keith uses the forum I was the fella wearing the Revocation t-shirt that had a pint with ye in Furey's last Friday!), so hopefully that does well and the Garavogue cops onto the fact they can make a few quid from entertainment that isn't lowest common denominator muck like what they usually have on seven nights a week.

There's another spot - Coolera House - that's perfect for gigs but it's a 15 minute drive outside of town. One of my mates put on Waylander and Primal Dawn out there in 2002 or so, but neglected to promote it, quite literally. Think there were more band members than punters, FFS

I've always been curious as to the meaning of the album title. Is it closer or closer?

Closer, I think. Though closer would also seem apt, in retrospect.

The Cure: Show Of A Lost World

Audio rip of the SOALW album launch gig last year. Mighty.

Yeah, I was talking to a few of the lads last year and they were saying it was becoming a real pain in the hole.
Its an awful pity.
Fair play to the lads though for their efforts over the years, these things don't just happen like and they probs didn't get the recognition and the  thanks they deserved, as is the way with these things.
Be great if some of the younger heads took up the mantel.

I know Coolera House, its a grand spot, "forgot to promote it" Jesus  .

Good to hear your friend is in good health, that fucking meningitis is no joke.
