Listening to Swans for the first time. I fell asleep listening to Soundtrack For the Blind last night and it was like some kind of nightmarish fever dream. Giving To Be Kind a go now. I'm not sure what to make of them at all!

Ha ha!

Great live band

You need to be in the mood for them album-wise

They create a great sound

Forget everything post Soundtracks and head directly to "Body to body" and "Public Castration"

All this talk of Chic has me playing them this morning, perfect Saturday morning music

With Swans you can dip in and out as they went through a fair few stylistic changes, the early stuff is quite abrasive, they became more varied as time passed. Soundtracks was my first one too (technically the Die Tür Ist Zu EP, which was alternative versions of Soundtracks songs and a couple of live ones) and it's still my favourite.

I'm envious, I'd love to hear them for the first time again.

NP - The Chic Organisation 1977 - 1979.

Compilation with the first three Chic records, and Sister Sledge's "We Are Family" album, which is effectively a Chic record fronted by Sister Sledge.

Fucking hell, Rodgers and Edwards were on fire in that period, some of the best music of the 70s.
.

It's pretty wild how talented they were. One of the most locked in bands ever.
Add Diana Ross' self-titled (the one with Upside Down and I'm Coming Out) to that list, too. It's a Chic album with Diana Ross singing and is, of course, a total banger.

That one too for sure! Wasn't it heavily remixed? Some DJ lad was all "disco is dead"?

When I saw Chic in 2018, they did a fifteen minute medley of stuff Rodgers/Edwards were involved in the creation of - they played Bowie, Duran Duran, Madonna, Ross, Daft Punk, others. Mad stuff.

The original Chic mix was rejected by Motown and they got their own guy to do it. There's a double CD version of the album which has both mixes. Not a huge amount of difference between the two, to be honest. I saw them a load of times when he started touring again after his cancer diagnosis, even in the Milk Market in Limerick, mad to see them in such a place. The set list is just that, Chic and a load of hits you knew under a different name but may not have known was Chic underneath. Best set list going, to be fair

How have I never even heard a trace of this? I love all those little quick weird guitar bits. Must see if any of the rest of their stuff is worth a listen

You don't remember when yer one was a presenter for MTV Europe? Great fucking days.

I just looked that up and she started presenting before I was born

That explains how you'd never heard of it then doesn't it?You fucking hipster kids and your 90s retroism  :eyeroll:

Joking aside, I've a major soft spot for "Drink Me", the first album  - "your ma" is the superior single.
Also, Marijne VanDerVlugt  :-*

Yeah that's class, stuck in my head for the rest of the month now for sure. The little flute bits sneaking away below the guitars

Ak'chamel - Rawskulled
Questmaster - Twelve Temples

Twelve temples really is a fantastic record to chill to, drenched in a beautiful nostalgic and etherial atmosphere. Reminds me alot of Tsukasa Saitoh's work on Kings Field IV, or the more subdued moments on Saori Kobayashi's work on panzer dragoon saga, which are quite unique soundtracks in and of themselves. Dungeon synth suffers alot from it all being quite samey but this album stands out imo.

Someone's doing their Roadburn research! (I assume)

Ye pretty much. Paid zero attention to the lineup and bought tickets purely because krallice are knocking out multiple sets. Figured it was time to see what the roadburn fuss was all about. Only found out Ak'chamel were on the bill this morning, which was a pleasant surprise.

Will prob go see questmaster the weekend before in Dublin thou.

Ah it's a great festival, the setup is brilliant, you should have a good time. I'm heading as well, have been attending since things opened up after Covid (having wanted to go for years) and it's just hit the spot every time, always come away with new musical rabbit holes to dive into.

Ah thats good to hear, the set up was my only concern, i.e. times between bands on different stages, clashes etc. That being said, im fairly flexible on what I want to go see with only a few bands on the must see list, so lots of time to saunter around and soak in new sounds.

The Jury version of Where Did You Sleep Last Night. I think it was mentioned on here before to me but I'd never heard it before yesterday. Very nice version

Oh it can be absolute clash hell depending on your interests, but you have to embrace it and commit to choices! If you're open to soaking in the sounds as you say, you'll have an excellent time. Some of my favourite gig experiences ever anywhere have been wandering into something I've had no intention of ever seeing at Roadburn and having my mind blown. They know what they're at.

Yeah Im kinda hyped about that specifically, few bands on the must see list of course, but mainly gonna follow the lads around and see what non metal bands theyre hyped about
