Have a gawk at Valfaris too for some old school run and gun action. Has a metal soundtrack and your guy headbangs when he gets an upgrade.

That looks great. Hard to beat some classic Run & Gun action. The soundtrack sounds good too. Cheers for that  :abbath:

Turrican and Turrican II are absolute classics! Still have my C64 cassettes for both.
Give Gunlord X on the current gen consoles a go - Total Turrican homage!
Absolutely love both of them and replay them on the emulator regularly.  The C64 had one class selection of games.

That looks like it'd be good fun

Edit: reminding myself to check out gunlord

Also worth mentioning that the soundtrack to Valfaris was done by Curt Victor Bryant who's a former member of Celtic Frost.

Fuck me. :o

Valfaris looks and sounds like a right blast. Definitely taking cues from Contra/Metroid/Turrican. Wonder if they'll go Metroidvania or go full on run'n'gun - the problem with Metroidvania games for me, though I love that style, is the backtracking. Only problem I'm seeing here is.... it's not going to be on PC right now. Darn exclusivity.
---
Gunlord does look tasty as well, known about it for a while - used to be only a Neo Geo title. Again though, would love to play it, but not got the consoles.... wish people would release things crossplatform straight off more often.

---

Turrican, I think started out on the C64, but had most of it's sequels on other platforms like the Amiga. Was a bastard hard game, but a great one.

That Gunlord looks like an absolute and complete rip off of Turrican II.  Even the bounce gun type, the circular floating power ups, hidden boxes, a 3-way gun type (that actually looks useful lol), sort of walkers as enemies, diamond collection, layout of the levels is the same... fucking everything is a modern expansion on it.  I would absolutely play that hands down and likely love it if I had a switch lol.

Valfaris is largely run and gun with linear levelz. The levels are kinda short but it's nails tough at times. Not "one shot and you're dead, Contra-style" but still a meaty challenge.

I must get back to it actually.

Has anyone played Mega Turrican on the Megadrive? It's good.

Picked up ghost of tsushima today and uncharted nathan drake collection cannot wait to get stuck into them

Really enjoying Ghost of Tshusima. It's open world but doesn't feel like a chore. The setting is fantastically realise and it's really evocative of the Kurosawa films that inspired it.

Have not got around to it yet being playing the drake collection  finished drakes fortune and started among  thieves. definitly going to get around to ghost on the weekend it looks savage.

Among Thieves is generally regarded as the best of the lot. I got into it accidentally back on the PS3 as it had just come out, my PS3 had died on me and the replacement console came with a packed in copy... man, was I pissed at myself for dismissing it without playing it.

Jaysus, Gunlord is cheap as shit on PS4. I'll be getting that down me tonight

Got gunlord there the other day and Turrican worship doesn't do justice to how alike it is. Bit too much of the bounce gun but great fun all the same.
