Any news on Ps5 pre orders? Will be my first playstation since the original square Ps1

I just pre-ordered it in GameStop (the one with a disc drive). 50 quid minimum.

I may not pick it up at launch (sure we don't even know the price yet and there's a Smyth's closer to the gaff, plus I don't see GameStop lasting too much longer), but may as well stick the few bob on it to have the option.

See I would do that but who knows if gamestop is going to be around in a few months.

I worked for them about ten years ago... they've got all the big hitters coming out (CoD, FIFA, etc.) which will keep them afloat for sure.

I'm more concerned they won't be around in case you need to enforce your guarantee for it... Smyth's are absolute hooers for honouring it. I'd prefer to go Argos but sure they don't do preorders

Edit - Smyth's have the option to sign up for an email on their site under the PS5 section.

Yeah I love Argos.

I was thinking of swapping the xbox one for a ps4 and playing the exclusives then just get a ps5 next year.

Yeah Argos are my go-to store for almost anything with a plug.

That wouldn't be a bad shout. I have the Pro myself and while it does have a few nice bells and whistles, the Slim/regular PS4 is the best bang for your buck.

Sony use the Slim/regular PS4 as its development target (which makes sense as that's what the majority of the install base has) with a few added niceties for the Pro, so you won't be short changed playing on the "lesser" consoles.

The flipaide is the PS5 is supposed to be natively backwards compatible with the PS4, so you've got an instant library of great exclusives to chose from. I'm holding out replaying God of War until I can do it on PS5 (partially because it makes the Pro too goddamned loud).

Preorders for PS5 went live in Smyth's after the event this evening and sold out in about half an hour. Managed to nab one.

GameStop preorders are also sold out.

What game you planning for release day? The demon souls remake looks beaut. It's the only one of the franchise I haven't played so am looking forward to it. The res evil trailer looked good as well

Probably Demon Souls as well (it's one of the few that is actually confirmed for launch day). Played it back on the PS3 but can't remember much! (actually just started the DLC for Dark Souls 3, so I'm in the mood for the heartbreak of a Souls game).

Biggest shitter is games are now looking to have hit a spicy price tag - Demon Souls is confirmed by Sony to be €80. Smyth's have it up on their site for the same price.

I'm honestly looking to upgrade at launch because I can't listen to my PS4 Pro sounding like a hairdryer much longer. I figure I'll get maximum bang for the Pro and the PS5 will only set me back about 300 once I move the Pro on. Replaying God of War and Doom in peace is worth the hassle.

I'm totally exhausted from work these days as the pressure is on with the Covid precautions so I got myself an auld treat, that PS NOW thing you can subscribe. Doom, FIFA and loads of others streaming for most of the weekend. Good value at 10 bob a month until you get bored of the games on offer.

Xbox Game Pass is far better value with a way better selection of monthly games which pains me as a big PlayStation fanboy since the original PS1!

Gamepass (and PS Now) kinda feel like you're paying for a streaming service with a limited selection of albums, whereas I like to buy vinyl :abbath:

See I had an xbox one with game pass and tbh, I never got the hype with it. Most of the games are years old and a lot of them are the standard releases.

Swapped for a ps4 a few weeks ago, got a few exclusives to plow through and it's the first time I've been excited to have a console that is chock full of amazing single player games.  I'm pissed I went with xbox one for the last generation but I guess I get to play all of these amazing games for relatively cheap now.

I'm off to play god of war  :abbath: :abbath: :abbath:

Don't want to derail the thread, but if anyone has any thoughts, from the point of view of the experience of the gamer, about "ludonarrative dissonance", I'd be interested in hearing from you via PM:
