Wondering now was it Astfgl or Emphyrio in Lidl Ennis the other day buying the box of Excelsior

Tasting notes: hipster shite

While I'm loathe to pay 6 quid a can for fancy stuff, I don't hate myself enough to hit the Excelsior. I presume it's a step or two below Dutch gold.

Well it's not really fair comparing it to something as fancy as the Dutch Gold, but in its' own bracket, it's a winner.

Hitting the Brown Bear double IPA now. Y'know the bit in The Wrath Of Khan where Khan maroons Kirk on the asteroid ("buried alive... buried alive..."), where he says to him "Ah Kirk, my old friend..." - the relish in his voice reflects this moment perfectly.

Caaaaaaan!

I bought a bottle of Craft Stout to soften the blow of another night on the Excelsior. Took one swig out of it, realised I was actually thirsty and went back to the warm embrace of me oul favourite

Beautiful stuff. Had a nice 12yo & 18yo in that distillery.

It's lovely so it is

I've actually recently replaced standard Jameson for Blackbush as my "basic" whiskey. Find the latter a much more interesting sip...although, over the years, I may simply have consumed too much Jameson, so it's perhaps become too predictable to my palette. Either way, Blackbush, for only a couple of quid extra a bottle (over here anyway) is a grand old bottle to turn to as a regular as opposed to special occasion uisce beatha.

Agreed. I'm a dirty fenlan yet the golden liquid produced by "them 'uns" is preferred over the nationalist jamie.

I prefer whiskies like Bushmills, powers etc which have a sweet edge to them.
