I have, and I know it's considered one of the better stouts, but I prefer the Solas, Galway Hooker or even O'Shea's ones. Was big into stouts for a coupla years, not so much the last while, but a simple pint of Guinness in an aulde man's pub can't be bate.

O'Hara's make that.

Excellent. Had been thinking of checking Bradley's after work. The Beamish in the last post gives away the Cork if nothing else

Noddaboddabiy.

I'll be heading to the Bierhaus myself after work. Stock up. Tuck in. Space out.

Interesting. Of the ones I mentioned, I think that was my favourite.

Horses for courses and all that. Plus - as mentioned - taste is a weird thing. For example;

Rye River in Kildare make some a lot of good beers (and some muck) under their own name.

Rye River make McGargles - all of which are piss.

Rye River make The Crafty Beer Co. stuff for Lidl which, broadly speaking, are all very good.

On a selection of Svysturys beers tonight.

I have been drinking beer for a long time and very few things have put me on my ass like Svyturys did. It has a slap like a loose barn door in the wind off if it.

Lovely though.

Well that's all the sales pitch I need to hear  must hunt down a couple of these to try out.

I should probably pay more attention to the brewers as opposed to the brands. Continuing taste being a weird thing, I like both McGargles and Crafty. Will look out for Rye River's own brand stuff.

Yeah you can't go wrong with the beer coming out of there imo.

The macgargles bangin ipa and the DIPA are good value!

Your man even started Whiplash in that brewery didn't he!

Like I said - horses for courses - I've had only bad experiences with McGargles - a lot of diacetyl issues with their beers, oxidation problems,  etc. so I choose not to spend my money there.

I think both Whiplash lads started in Rye River. Alex definitely did.

Whiplash are next level - in fact they're 10 levels above nearly everyone else in Ireland.

They are on the same podium as the likes of To Øl, Mikkeller, 3 Floyds, Left Hand, Solemn Oath etc. Probably the only brewery on the island of Ireland that can match them are Boundary in Belfast.

Just looked at their site. Saucy.

In both senses. You'll get a great beer but be paying a fairly hefty price for it. Rye River are the same for their own brand.

I was in the main craft off-license in Cork last week doing my beer shopping - some of the Whiplash cans are up to €8 a throw. https://www.thebeerclub.ie/products/whiplash-fatal-deviation-barrel-aged-imperial-stout-440ml-can?_pos=15&_sid=9a4cc69b5&_ss=r&variant=37566011179158

They had a special by  Mikkeller too that was nearer €15 too. For a can.

I'd nearly adopt the tactic of my buddy in Dunnes from a few pages back after seeing that.

Had a look at the Whiplash site there. Their prices are prohibitively ridiculous. Hard pass.

I don't mind paying a bit extra in a pub (mmmm pub) but paying pub prices for a can at home, for 440ml at that.... !

Maybe one or 2 and balance it out with 8 cans of Excelsior.

Yeah the bourbon barrel aged fatal deviation was 15euro when I bought it. To be fair to them, it's without doubt the best bourbon barrel aged in a warehouse in ballyfermot imperial stout I've ever had.

They were saying they've a few aging at the moment for later in the year.

Just in to approve of the Excelsior

Whiplash can phuck right off with those prices for shitty wee cans.
Hipster shite. It's all about the look of the can and the brand. I've had two cans before, my mate got me them. Decent beer alright, but €5-€9 for a can? Nah!
