An absolute and genuine giant of the original underground scene. And absolutely sound when I got to meet him thanks to the Day of Darkness lads.

I know it's been mentioned in the "notable deaths" thread I've never liked, but if LG Petrov leaving us doesn't merit its own homage thread here, well, then what are we here for?? Thanks for all the weeks and weeks worth of hours of enjoyment  :abbath: :abbath: :abbath:

Yeah probably needs its own thread given his status within the early scene.Id imagine Entombed were in every one of our collections, weather it be the Old school DM or the Death n Roll albums or both.

At one or their gigs one time someone described him to me as the Ozzy Osbourne of death metal!

Shit news. Like many others on here, Left Hand Path was a huge part of my death metal listening during my formative years and still gets played regularly. In no small part due to LG's vocals.

I even bought the Firespawn album because of his vocals. That didn’t really have much staying power.
I had to blast Clandestine and Wolverine Blues this morning.

I’m reading Blood, Fire, Death at the moment. That book gives an brief explanation of what happened with Entombed. Such a shame it went the way it did.

I liked all their stuff (bar Same Difference),obviously the first two are iconic albums. But To Ride Shoot ..... ,and Uprising are great albums in the Death n Roll vein.

Wolverine Blues caught a lot of people off guard, but i think its a legendary album.

Left Hand Path is only beaten by Leprosy as best DM album for me, and I'd put Wolverine Blues over Clandestine any day of the week. Great singer, sound lad. A damn shame.

I've went through the first two this morning on Wolverine now, just thinking of my youth and being introduced to these absolute classics. Good Times!

Haven't read that book. Would you mind expanding a little bit on what happened with the band?

Damn shame, RIP.
I remember getting my hands on Left Hand Path after hearing the buzz about it, what an album.
Great vocalist with a great legacy left behind.

Must've seen them five times in Dublin over the years from their "To Ride, Shoot Straight and Speak the Truth" tour onwards. Got my cassettes of Left Hand Path and Clandestine signed by LG and Alex Hellid as they stood in the crowd before Amon Amarth took the stage in the Academy October 2009. I lost touch with the post millennial Entombed discography but there's no doubt how their first four albums helped forge both the old and new school genres of death metal. May LG sleep well and how appropriate that the Go Fund Me total now stands at 666,666 SKR. The word legend is sometimes overused. Not in this instance.  :(

That's a shame, cancer really is a cunt. Got to see Entomed AD with Voivod in the Voodoo a couple of years back, whatever about the whole band split it was cool to see him belt out some classic Entombed tracks.

Sad news. I was never a big Entombed fan but those couple of Music Centre gigs at the end of the 90s were ferocious. RIP.

It's written as a case of communication breakdown.

The author was with them for a day whilst they were supporting Amon Amarth and apparently LG was completely fed up with the whole thing even at that stage.
Tour offers were coming in and the band would reply immediately whilst Alex Hellid would take up to 3 weeks to respond and the offer would have been gone.
He became ill and the others went to record a new album.

They then went about trying to trademark the name and Hellind filed for the copyright at the same time.
LG won and in 2014, then in 2017 the courts decided the 2 entities had to share the name equally.

Hellind still was stalling , no new music etc so LG added the AD to entombed and toured the shit out if it.

Now that's what the book says but there are always 2 sides to the story. Hellind never turned up for any if the interviews that were set up between him and the author.

It's not a bad book but it skips out completely on JB and Grand Magus so that's minus 10000 points.
Shining get a huge section though.

Thanks for this!! Knowing a thing or two about how bands function, I could fully believe the things went on as said in the book.
It happens soooooo often that different people have different levels of commitment to the band that it has to come to a breaking point eventually.

No problem.  There is a great video online of LG onstage with Converge playing in a tiny club in Sweden.
It looks like the crowd were having fun !
