Actually @hellyeah that reminds me of the simple pleasure of having a stove.

Electricity gone?

Can cook, have light, have heat, win at not being at the mercy of the power grid.

Hard luck to all of those new build, green mortgage rate folks who think that it's grand to have one of the elements taken away for a slightly cheaper mortgage and submission to the gods of shit science. Hard fucking luck

Agreed, same reason why I have a gas stove. Heat the lower deck and cook also. We have always had the ability to create fire, so you can stick your heat pump where you like.
If the shit hits the fan, I have a log pile, and when that goes a chainsaw in the shed. Not freezing for no one.

Also have a stove, and a log pile. And a power bank charged to 100%, and headphones at same.

The great thing about getting older is that as your gums recede your teeth start looking mighty.

Plus spitting blood is clearly a metal-as-fuck pursuit.

It's all about the flossing lads.

Finding a bunch of old Argos catalogues that have been scanned online and flicking through them. Late 80s/early 90s. Can relieve my childhood Christmases by seeing all the popular toys at that time. But also even flicking through the rest and seeing all the elctronics, furniture, light fixtures, telephones etc etc that everyone had. They're a pure time capsule. Nostalgia hits hard in middle age, but even moreso when you've been away from home for 10 years!

Discovering your next obsession. The band/film/book you get completely lost in. I'm discovering good new stuff all the time, but it feels like only a handful of times a year that something really blows your mind and you become obsessed with it. Even better when you recognize that moment when you're still in it and know you will look back on that little era fondly in future.

Buying a new book  8) The simplest and most pleasurable of pleasures.
