I was lower than a snake's belly as a teenager. Bad as it was, I'd reckon it'd be better than having no lead in me pencil. Used to work in a dispensary where I'd meet a few poor lads that had years of trying and failing to get the horn under any circumstances. More than one of them cried when they were collecting their script.

Bet none of em tried the pyjamas section of the Lidl catalogue though. They just needed to think outside of the box really.

Well of course they had to think outside of the box because every time they tried thinking inside of the box it was like trying to play snooker with a rope.

Very scaldy

Yep, unfortunately finding the time to read it is becoming increasingly tough!

Every night, early-ish to bed and read for an hour with tunes on the phone. Another simple pleasure.

It's the worst.

Blitzed about 5 books at the end of the summer and thought "Finally back to reading" then the stack of books and comics glares at me for the next four months!

I really need to stop going to the charity shops😂

Wakes.

Mother-in-law passed away Wednesday, funeral in Spain this morning. No wake after. The absence of one really made it stand out to me how great a thing they are to have on an otherwise miserable day.

Sorry to hear that, lad.

'Twas a similar situation with a friend's funeral recently, just the funeral in the church on Tuesday morning, she was to be cremated so not even a burial to go to. An odd situation when you're used to the wake - removal - funeral - burial set up.

Condolences to you and the missus, Chris. A wake is indeed a very civilized way to send a loved one off.

Condolences Chris. In fairness, if there's one thing the Irish do well (or have done well, as I'd imagine these things may become a thing of the past) it's giving someone a good send off. It's just a way of ending an otherwise sad occasion on a high note. I wouldn't have a huge extended family by any means, but it seems like wakes are the only chance you get to see everyone together, apart from the odd wedding.
