Nadja - Tabernanthe

When he gets it right, Nadja is stellar, which this is,

A bitty quality control wouldn't go astray though.

Voivod- War and Pain. This is my first time listening to this album but having picked up the new one over the weekend I thought it's high time I delved in a bit deeper with ye old Wodz ov Woi. Strangely I have a really early metal memory of this album as a guy I hung around with when I was 10 or so had this on vinyl. I never listened to it but the artwork always kind of freaked me out. I was big into Metallica, Megadeth and ST but this seemed like a step into another realm. Listening to it now I think I might have actually liked it. It's very punkish and catchy. I have had Dimension Hatross for years and think it's savage so it's high time I began to fill in the Voivod blanks in my collection. I think seeing them at that Neurosis gig in 98 or so put me off them for another few years as I didn't find them too exciting that night, but my tastes have changed so much since then. Anyway, this is a little ripper which I'm sure you all know anyway.

Nice. Love the first 4.

Wouldn't be a fan of anything pre-Nothingface myself, to the extent that I'd put RRROOOAAARRR down as one of the worst albums I've ever heard.

Agreed about that Neurosis support slot though, they bored me to tears - which was doubly disappointing as I quike like the Forrest-era albums, particularly Phobos.

Killing Technology's probably the best for me, the run of albums from that until The Outer Limits is brilliant.

The first two are good for some punky thrash too but I wouldn't put them on much.

Count Raven - Mammons War
Count Raven - The Sixth Storm
Mgla - Age of Excuse

Nordicwinter - Desolation

Bedsore - Hypnagogic Hallucinations ( Recommended for those with a Morbid Chron shaped void in their lives)

Say no more (except perhaps that you agree that is one of the worst band names ever, proper parody stuff!  )

Awful name alright and one that would usually be enough to ensure my hand staying firmly in my pocket but the more I listened to it online the more it had to be nabbed, lovely artwork just sealed the deal.  I think the meaning of the name is lost somewhere in the translation ( they're Italian), it's a bit more esoteric (according to MA) than yer granny laid up in hospital!

Wearing jeans and leather, not crackerjack clothes

King Crimson - Red
Incantation - Onward to Golgotha

Pallbearer - Sorrow and Extinction

This is ten years old today, both this and Foundations of Burden are modern doom classics imo, not sure what happened after that but nothing they've done has grabbed me since.

Nordgeist - Frostwinter   :abbath: :abbath:

Blood Incantation - Timewave zero pre-ordered CD arrived today... honestly its not great i think. I respect them for trying something different, but its just long drawn out droney stuff. Nothing too immediate i guess... id say it'd be great to listen to while completely baked and maybe thats the point.  But i think this one will stay on the shelf til their next (proper) album comes out.  Great band though.

That's essentially what a detailed review on Angry Metal Guy said. Brave but a shame nonetheless it seems. I wonder what way will the European tour go - drone or metal, or some bit of a balance. Glad I caught them before this experimentation anyway.
