Metallica: s/t Rough & Alternative Mixes

Gave this a spin on the way in and out of tiwn. Unfinished versions of the songs, as you'd imagine, some much heavier in these mixes. The amount of bass on a couple of them suggests that everything they took out of AJFA, they put back in here. Interesting.

Agriculture - "The Spiritual Sound"

Always have a soft spot for these lads though I wouldn't reach for a lot of bands that sound similar.  Something always jumped out for me.  Anyway great album.

Malevich - "Under a Gilded Sun"
https://malevichatlanta.bandcamp.com/album/under-a-gilded-sun

Have posted this in here before.  Post Metal with BM leanings, very good but a serious grower.  Was on and off the fence first but something  brought me back to it lately and it is savage really.

Coilguns - "Odd Love"

It took me a while again.  I love "Millennials", savage album, a real favourite.  Always enjoyed the rest of their stuff but when this came out it didn't stick with me, good but not as immediate maybe.  Anyway I was reminded to put it on last week and I was wrong, it is savage, I just didn't give it the time originally.  Great stuff.  Some sort of post-hardcore.

SYL - s/t

Probably my least listened to SYL album.  I love it but haven't had it on in years.  Thought about the back half of Aftermath last week and put it on, it is still unreal but you can tell Townsend wasn't as engaged with it in hindsight.  Some filler.  Not a fucking patch on City or Alien, better than TNB, on par with HAARHT.

This didnt click with me atall on my first few listens, then I saw them play the entire album live. One of the best sets I've ever seen. Still moments on the record that wouldnt be my thing per se, but I can't deny its a fantastically well written record.

I am with you there, this particular style doesn't ever fully grab me but a couple of bands do it well, there are definitely one of them.  Never saw them live, heard they are meant to be great though.

Yeah if you get the opportunity Id strongly recommend seeing them. I was heading to a festival with some friends, tried the album and was a bit elitist in my general take away from it. One of the lads, rightly, said none of that, trust me we should go see em, and Im very glad I did. Honestly, one of the best live acts Ive seen and I appreciate the album alot more after it. I think them framing it as black metal adjacent does it no favours and I was immediately listening with preconceptions.

Krisiun- conquerors of Armageddon!

Allegaeon- Proponent for Sentience trilogy, feeling very apt these days

To be fair, it had aged poorly within about a day of being released
