Blistering death metal, similar to Angelcorpse and Perdition Temple.

My young fella picked this CD off the shelf this morning and asked me to put it on. He said it's too angry and told me to put on happy music instead. I stuck on some B-52s and he just left the room.

You broke out into some freaky Rock Lobster dance, didn't you?

 I though Rock Lobster would be the tune to win him over, but he left the room before I could start my weird dance.

I love the B52s, but I suggest fighting fire with fire here-play your child the Botch version of "Rock Lobster" immediately

Great idea. I'll tie him up so he can't leave and play both versions of Rock Lobster and We Are the Romans on repeat until he gets it.

Quote from: Thorn on June 12, 2026, 08:57:37 PMNecrophobic - The Nocturnal Silence 8.5/10
Classic Sunlight Studio's debut from 1993 which took on board what was going on across the border in Norway at the time to forge this minor masterpiece of Blackened Death Metal. Also one of the most noticable album covers in any Metal collection, stark and simple.

Gospel Of The Horns - A Call To Arms 8.5/10
You'd be hard pressed to find a better half hour of black thrash than what these Aussie hellraisers belched up in 2002. Simple, straight forward  and eminently replayable.

Belial - Wisdom Of Darkness 6/10
The Finn's 1992 proto Death Metal debut EP from 1992 is big on malevolent atmosphere but not so remarkable in terms of songwriting. The more kvlt among you may disagree.

Three classics there! GOTH never put a foot wrong on record, I reckon. Necrophobic delivered the goods time and time again up to and including Blood Hymns.

That Belial EP rocked my world when it came out, thought it was like Beherit playing death metal. I was hooked after Of Servant of Belial was played on the Metal Show on 2FM. I can easily see how it wouldn't be for everyone, though, as it is a bit of a mess and it does tail off a bit after a couple of songs.

I also love the B52's, the first two albums get regular spins. I am off to check out this Botch version.

I knew there would be one at least sticking up for for the Belial  8)

That Belial ep is incredible.

Pariah - Blaze Of Obscurity 7.5/10
The band formerly ( and subsequently) known as Satan, with their second blue collar Brit Thrash release from 1989. File alongside your D.A.M.s and Xentrixs .

Fleshcrawl - Epitome of Carnage 7.5/10
Ten albums in now for the Germans and they're still furrowing away in that swampy, second tier trench of Death Metal. Everything about this record is hugely derivative, the cover, the album title, the song titles, the Swedeath buzzsaw up the backside guitar sound but as long as oiks like me keep lapping this shit up then grunts like these will keep churning it out. Anyway, it's as close as we're getting to a new Dismember record in 2026.

Burning Witches - The Witch Of The North 7.5/10
Still enjoying the Witches' passion for all things classic Heavy Metal, you can hear the Priest, Dio, Accept and Maiden in every track here. Apart from the last one. Because that's Savatage.

Tank - Power of The Hunter 7.5/10
1982 and Algy and the boys were touring heavily with Motorhead by this point. It was bound to rub off and it did on this second long player but there was enough to demonstrate they were honing their own hard rockin' chops and nous.

Mindwars - V 7/10
First pick up for me from Mike Alvord's Mindwars, a more pedestrian affair than the mighty Holy Terror no doubt but a servicable enough helping of Power/Thrash and galloping Maidenesque rhythms nonetheless.

Armored Saint - Emotion Factory Reset 6/10
Hmm. 6/10? Just above average?.Depends what you want from your Metal I guess. For me there's not much beyond the first track to get one's teeth into and certainly little to disturb a classic Saint setlist. Superb performances all around of course, just personally find the tracks very middle of the road  and toothless. Apart from that first one. Kinda glad I'm a little disappointed though. I'd hate to have to say my favourite record of 2026 was called THAT.

Between yesterday and being up at stupid O'clock this morning....

Burzum - Filosofem
Solstice - New Dark Age
Khemmis - Khemmis
Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak
Seven Sisters - Shadow of a Fallen Star Part 1
Ancient Rites - Dim Carcosa
Slayer - Show No Mercy

Lex Legion: s/t

King Diamond's band with a different singer. It's fine, about what you'd expect. All shirt, sharp shocks so far (9 tracks, about 34 mins. long).

Reminds me of the last Sanctuary album a bit, actually.

Deicide - Serpents Of The Light
Deicide - Once Upon The Cross
R.E.M. - Green
Coroner - Dissonance Theory

I watched the video that came out a few months ago. Perfectly fine. Perfectly forgettable.

Yeah, that's about it. It's not bad at all, nit great either, just... there. I doubt I'll listen to it again but it killed a half hour or so pleasantly.
