Haha, I rose to the bait...

Last five for me:

Lilith (Bolivia) – The Conquering of the Eternal Wisdom (2000, atmospheric black metal, not for everyone, but I love it. The rest of their stuff isn't great though).

Esoctrilihum (France) – Eternity of Shaog (2020, fucking bananas atmospheric black metal with some other stuff crammed in. One of two albums by this project that are for me at least a 9/10).

Invunch (Bolivia) – Atavismo (2025, an absolute ripper, punky black metal with a cool South American shamanic twist, one of the best things released last year IMO).

Csejthe (Quebec) – La mort du Prince Noir (2009, mid-paced black metal with a bit of atmosphere, really good stuff; overdid it a while back, but was great to hear it again after a couple of years).

Henge (not from this fucking planet) – Attention Earth (2018, fuck it, gotta have a bit of fun sometimes...).

Metallica- And Justice For All. Man, James's vocal delivery is so good on this one.

For me it's the first album where he first sounds, in places, like he's trying out stuff (and not quite getting there) rather than simply doing what comes naturally (and nailing it).

Interesting. Which parts specifically do you mean? As in, which parts isn't he nailing?

To me it sounds like a dude who is on top of his game, fuelled by the tail end of youthful energy, the early stages of grown-up-ness. There's a bark to his delivery that sounds just a little more caustic than on Master, but that might also be down to the production which is so dry and brutal. I have a love/ hate affair with the production, but that said, I wouldn't change it any more than I'd change Lars's drumming. In fact, you could argue that this is Lars's most daring and creative album too.

His voice is great on most of it, when it sounds basically the same as on MoP, but there's a lot of places, throughout, where the creeping "woah yeaahuhuhuh" style that would mark his later vocal approach, and always sounds affected/a bit forced, is apparent for the first time.

Tailgunner - Guns for Hire
Riot - Inishmore
Overkill - Under The Influence
Stormruler - Sacred Rites & Black Magick
Enslaved - Below the Lights

The God Machine - Scenes from the Second Storey

One of my favourite albums. This was re-released on vinyl last year. I need to buy a copy to replace my shitty taped version.

Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast
                         Piece of Mind
                         Powerslave
                         Somewhere in Time
                         Seventh Son of a Seventh
                         Son

Ah no, I think he's on the right side of the line on Justice.

Voivod: Negatron
Khost / Godflesh: Needles Into The Ground

Morbid Angel: Blessed Are The Sick (CD)

I personally love this album (despite the little instrumental passages) , had a little look online and it seems most reviews don't give it much time.

Time passes and opinions change I suppose. But WTF.

They must be idiots, it's a 5/5 album, and their best. Top 5 DM album for me.

Comfortably their best, I would say. It's flawless.
